Plan and organize your trip through Cádiz by motorhome in 5 clicks

There is nothing better than enjoying the beaches of Cadiz by campervan. A proposal that we bring you for a postCovid trip that will make you fall in love.

1 Tarifa and its districts such as Bolonia, the first stop on the Cadiz coast by van

We start our route through the best places on the Cadiz Coast by van through Tarifa, wind and kitesurfing paradise all year round. In Tarifa, free overnight stays in a camper van or motorhome are very difficult in summer, but you have many campsites and a place to stay right in the center of town for a minimal price. In winter they are more permissive and you will not have so many problems.

In Tarifa visit its old town and its paradisiacal beaches.

Here we leave you our 3 proposals for you to enjoy the best of Tarifa:

Los Lances beach

The beach closest to the town of Tarifa and with good views of Africa in its background.

Punta Paloma and Valdevaqueros beach

In this incredible beach you can enjoy the famous Valdevaqueros dunes. Do not miss them if you do this route of Cadiz by van or motorhome.

In addition, the Valdevaqueros beach is known worldwide as the best wind and kitesurfing destination in Europe and it has several beach bars and schools for wind, kite and stand up paddle surfing.

Proposal to spend the night in Tarifa and its beaches on the route of the Costa de Cadiz by van or motorhome

We propose you Camping Torre la Peña, a perfect place to sleep watching the sea.

In this photo below you can see its calm and in the background its cafeteria on the beach.

Bolonia, a small district of Tarifa with a beach paradise of dunes

We continue in Tarifa, within our route along the Cadiz Coast by van. Near the town of Tarifa, is Bolonia, a small district that belongs to the same Tarifa and is 15-20 minutes away. A small town of little more than two streets, but with impressive attractions: dunes, dreamy natural pools, Roman archeology and impressive viewpoints await you.

What to see in Bologna
Impressive dunes

Entering the beach of Bolonia we will find on the right the impressive dune of Bologna easily observable by its immensity.

The dune of Bologna has a height of more than 30 meters high and 200 meters inland, in a width of about 500 meters.

The climb to the dune is quite steep and you have to expend energy to overcome the resistance of the step on the sand. Once at the top it is the only place to see the coast of the African continent, which can be clearly seen during the sunniest days. The views are especially worth it at sunset.

Roman Ruins of Bologna

To the left of Bologna, near the district of El Lentiscal you will find these precious Roman vestiges.

El Archaeological Ensemble of Bailo Claudia, declared a National Historic Monument. An ancient Roman city that surprises for its state of conservation, with typical urban planning of its time.

Natural pools, a must on our route along the Costa de Cadiz by van or motorhome

To the left of Bolonia, after passing the town of El Lentiscal, and walking to the end of the beach we would reach an area called the Baños de Claudia, where the sand mixes with rocks and when the tide is at low tide the natural pools of Bologna. A spectacle of nature.

Nearby, you will find Chorrito de la Teja, a spring near the natural pools of Baños de Claudia. It is said that the water from that spring together with the land of the place form therapeutic sludge with which people usually smear themselves, and then wash themselves in the natural pools of Bolonia.

You can access these spectacular natural pools in Bologna by just walking about 30 minutes from the motorhome areas. A spectacle of nature.

The viewpoint of the Cueva del Moro

The viewpoint of the Cueva del Moro is located in the direction of Zahara de los Atunes. A good excursion with beautiful views, where you can also access it in your van or motorhome as it has parking.

You can go there, park and make a a 45 minute walk to the Camarinal Lighthouse and Cañuelo Beach, the one that is not accessible by car.

Proposal to spend the night in Bologna in a motorhome or camper

This small hamlet belonging to Tarifa has a couple of motorhome areas, one of land and the other of grass, which for € 10 a night you can spend the night without problems in summer.

In winter, however, you can park and spend the night, never camp, wherever you want, including on the beach.

2 Barbate, second area of our route along the Cadiz Coast by van or motorhome

We continue doing kilometers and we do not go to the Barbate area. Our second favorite destination on the Cádiz Coast.

The municipal term of Barbate has 25 kilometers of coastline that are distributed between 8 main beaches, which extend from Zahora to Zahara de los Atunes. One of the most famous and a must see in Barabte, but, is the Caños de Meca Beach that we also tell you below.

In Barbate you will find small coves, natural waterfalls, the Trafalgar Lighthouse, a hippy market and very good vibes. Some of our recommendations for visiting Barbate are the following:

Zahora Beach

In the beach of Zahora you can see in the background andl Cape Trafalgar with its 30 meter lighthouse Tall.

If you like paradisiacal beaches, alone and shallow, I recommend visiting Playa Zahora, it is a good option if you want to enjoy nature without noise or interruptions. A beach also to practice nudism.

It is also a good place to spend the night in a motorhome or camper since there are areas for motorhomes and campers, for about € 10 a night, and campsites

Mangueta Beach

A beautiful and quiet beach between Zahora and El Palmar that you should not miss.

It is located near Zahora beach, where you can walk along the shore.
The access it has from Caños de Meca is a narrow and dusty road which in its final section must be done on foot, it is not recommended to go with small children, however it is ideal for cycling.
The beach, like almost all of this area, is long and wide, although in this area the sand is coarser.

The Caños de Meca

This district of Barbate, on the Cadiz coast, became the nerve center of the hippie movement of the 60s and today it continues to be a haven of peace to enjoy 'karma', its infinite beaches of crystal clear water and nudists, cliffs that gain ground to the sea and its Natural Park of La Breña and Marismas de Barbate.

The Natural Park of La Breña and Marismas de Barbate

A natural park that serves as a viewpoint, the view from here is spectacular, you can see part of the coast and its immense sea that are more than 1800 meters of beach. One of the tourist attractions of the park are the different ecosystems that subsist here, due to its cliffs and walking routes. Among the things to see in Barbate, this is one of the most beautiful that you can visit. And inside this natural park do not forget to visit the largest dovecote in the world registered in the Guinness book of records. He Dovecote of the Brena, located in the hotel of El Palomar de Breña today, there are 400 m2 of almost 8000 nests for spectacular pigeons. Your visit is free if you ask the hotel staff for permission.

Caños de Meca, the district

It is just a small street of low houses located on top of a cliff, but in summer it becomes the summer 'mecca' of hippies, surfers, bohemians, nudists, naturists and that increasingly attracts a family tourist.

Los Caños owes its name to the large number of pipes or jets of fresh water that emanate from its cliffs.

At the end of the naturist beach 'Little Lulú', in half an hour of walking it is worth visiting some of its waterfalls, fresh water jets.

Finally, talk about its miraculous mud that bathers extract directly from the rock of the beach to smear the body and that leaves the skin soft and smooth.

Zahara

Zahara de los Atunes is an autonomous local entity of Barbate, a district of 1000 and few inhabitants famous for its gastronomy of tuna and very touristy.

That is why you should also visit Zahara de los Atunes. And here you will find its Almadraba bluefin tuna museum which is one of the most popular fresh products in Barbate and therefore it is not surprising that they have dedicated a museum to it, the Tuna Museum.

In addition, the museum has part of a tasting shop and they do visits with tasting, but time must be arranged through its website.

Finally, in Zahara de los Atunes you can also know its Castle. Called Chanca de Zahara Palace, Jadraza Castle or Almadraba Royal Palace. A castle with a square base, which is part of the military history of the city.

Overnight in a motorhome or campervan in the Barbate area

To spend the night you have different car parks and motorhome areas that for a small price allow you to sleep in your camper van or motorhome. “Camaleón” is one of those motorhome and camper parking spaces that we like as a base in this area.

3 Cádiz capital, last stop on the route along the coast of Cadiz by van or motorhome

Cádiz known for its carnivals, its great theater fails and its fried fish It is a must on any route through the province of Cádiz.

In Cádiz you should not miss a visit to its colonial-style cathedral, the CCathedral of Santa Cruz, which you can see from its immense walk near the sea that reminds us of the Malecón in Havana.
