10 Tips for Enjoying PortAventura with Your Family by PortAventura Adventurers

After the excitement of KucavanasFest, we needed a family plan to unwind, laugh, and continue experiencing adventures on wheels with a smaller group. And, like every year around this time, we had an unmissable date: PortAventura World.

Every year we go around this time for two reasons: the kids' birthdays are just around the corner, and it's their present, and secondly because Port Aventura has the added bonus of Halloween decorations from September to November, which is well worth it.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you already know that I’ve been traveling as a family in a motorhome for over 12 years, and that on this blog I share real experiences, unfiltered and with a practical point, something that I sometimes find missing in many blogs in these times of artificial intelligence, which also makes them artificial… Today I bring you one of those getaways that never fail, with my best tips from years going to Port Aventura: useful, simple and with that Kucavana touch that combines savings, organization and fun in equal parts, also adding the option in a motorhome if you dare to go with it 🙂

PortAventura Tips: Schedules, tips, time and money savings

Here are the tips, without further ado.

1. Always buy tickets online (not at the box office). Tip: I'll give you the platform with the best Port Aventura deals.

The first and perhaps most important piece of advice: don't buy tickets at the box office. In addition to the endless lines at the entrance, prices are usually higher.

Always buy online from This platform that Port Aventura directly sells its best active offers. This way, you can get in right away, without waiting, and you'll be guaranteed the best rates.

And if you plan to really enjoy it, I recommend one of the Port Aventura combo tickets. Especially if you're visiting Barcelona and going to Port Aventura, the combos offered on this platform are well worth it; you'll save a lot of money in the end. We've sometimes taken the Port Aventura + Tibidabo combo, which makes a great gift for kids.

2. Take advantage of the combined PortAventura + Ferrari Land ticket

If you're traveling with kids or teenagers, this combo is the best option. We usually start the day at PortAventura World, where it's less crowded early in the morning, and then we cross at 5 p.m. when Ferrari Land opens (this is in the fall, when we usually go). We then head to Ferrari Land to enjoy the rest of the day until 10 p.m., when it's less crowded than PortAventura World. Oh, and then from 10 p.m. to midnight, we head back to PortAventura World to see the parade, fireworks, and final performance on the lake, which are well worth the stop to round off a great day.

Bonus tip: Enter Ferrari Land as soon as it opens and head straight to Red Force, the most popular attraction, to reduce wait times.

3. Run to the first attraction of the day, victory is guaranteed

It seems like an obvious tip, but it's one of the most valuable. As soon as the park gates open, head straight to the ride with the longest line of your favorites.

We've found it: the first 30 minutes are magical. No waiting, no stress, and full of energy. That's when the kids have the most fun, and you feel like the king or queen of strategy, avoiding minutes of waiting in line, haha.

4. Carry a refillable bottle

Between the excitement, the races, and the laughter, the heat and thirst are guaranteed. Instead of constantly buying bottles of water, bring a refillable bottle.

There are fountains in the park's restrooms where you can easily refill your toilet. Besides saving money, you'll avoid generating plastic waste, a great gift for our planet 😉

5. Save time with the Express Pass and money by purchasing it at the hotel machine.

If you're visiting the park on busy days, the Express Pass may be your best investment. It lets you skip long lines and get much more out of your day, especially if you're only going for one. We've taken the 5-day Express Pass a few times (which includes the less strenuous rides and water rides, but which are the ones the kids get to ride), and I can tell you, skipping the lines is pure luxury. But on the downside... you have to pay 50 euros almost in high season or 25 in low season, hahaha, yes... the price varies depending on the day and demand... pure capitalism...

Here's Kucavana's tip: if you're staying (or parked in the RV area) at one of the Port Aventura hotels, buy the Express Pass at the hotel ticket machines. It's €3 cheaper than buying it online or at the ticket office, and you can also buy it without waiting in line.

We've done it this way the last few times and it works like a charm.

6. Bring something to snack on and eat

Yes, there are restaurants and food stalls inside the park, but with kids (and hungry adults) that can become a significant expense and waste of time.

My advice: bring snacks, fruit, sandwiches, or whatever you like to munch on between rides. Besides saving money, you'll avoid buying snacks every now and then. And best of all: you can enjoy them in the rest areas or in the shade, without rushing or waiting in lines.

7. If you're going to a hotel, choose one with direct access to the park or save a lot of money by going to one 10 minutes from the park.

If you decide to sleep in a hotel, I give you some advice that is worth gold: choose a hotel with direct access inside the Port Aventura park or if not,e to one of these in Salou just 10 minutes from the Park and save a lot of money.

The Hotel Gold River, the Hotel PortAventura, or the Mansion Lcy allow you to enter and exit the park without taking the car, or without long walks, or wasting time. This is a huge convenience when traveling with small children or when you want to rest for a while at lunch and then return to the attractions. At the Caribe Hotel and El Paso, you'll have to walk a good 10-15 minutes to the park entrance.

8. PortAventura at Halloween: pure magic (and fun scares)

We usually go in October, and I promise you that PortAventura at Halloween is amazing.
Spectacular decor, characters everywhere, and themed shows that captivate both children and adults.

Kucavana Extra Tip: If you're going with small children, take advantage of the family areas and softer shows. But if you're a sucker for adrenaline, don't miss the Halloween haunted houses. Like everything at PortAventura, most haunted houses require an extra charge, except for one path between Polynesia and China, where you'll find a haunted house for a few hours that's free and fun for the little ones.

9. Don't miss Port Aventura's schedules

Sometimes we think Port Aventura opens early and closes very late, and no, that's not the case. Be careful, especially if you go in the fall or winter, when the hours and opening days are even more limited (the park is closed from mid-January to the end of February).

The park and attractions generally open at 11 a.m., so don't worry because the parking lot opens at 10:30 a.m., so no matter how early you get up... The only thing you'll find is a queue to get into the parking lot, ha ha ha.

10. PortAventura by motorhome: sleep and enjoy without complications

One of the great advantages of traveling by motorhome or camper is that you can have your own "hotel" just a few meters from the park. In our case, we stayed in the Hotel Gold River RV park, within the PortAventura complex. It's actually one of the best hotels for direct access to the park.

Kucavana Council: Although it's a parking lot, it offers hotel services (showers, restrooms, electricity, Wi-Fi, a hotel pool, and easy access to the park). It's ideal for families like ours, looking for comfort without losing the camper spirit. You must reserve it before traveling together and present the reservation along with the purchase of tickets for everyone in the motorhome or camper.

Another advantage of traveling by RV is that you can bring your pet along and have them stay safe in their home on wheels.

In short: PortAventura, a well-rounded family plan

Traveling by motorhome or camper gives you the freedom to experience the park at your own pace: sleep nearby, have breakfast with a view, and return home on wheels whenever you feel like it.

But even if you don't travel like this, PortAventura is one of those must-do family activities. And with these tips, I guarantee you'll make the most of your day: no lines, no unnecessary expenses, and plenty of memorable moments.

Because in the end, that's what it's all about: traveling, enjoying, and sharing time together.
And you know... if you can do it with your van or motorhome, even better.
