The mimes, Albert and Luisa, along with their two little ones, are one of those positive, dreamy and great families that the motorhome world has given us, although both they and we come from a California T4.

We call Albert the WikiAlbert, and there is no path and mountain route that can resist him and take us. About Luisa, there is little to say more than she is one of those people who shine with her heart, always positive, attentive, and dreamy. A person who builds, who always creates positive things in others.

In your instagram profile we inspire and make us dream of beautiful destinations. For me they are one of those instagramers who undoubtedly add value with their publications, so Do not hesitate to follow them! What are you waiting for?

Currency of Croatia

The mondeda of the country are the kuna.

Prices in Croatia

In general the prices in Croatia are very affordable.

Prices in Croatia for both accommodation and food are very affordable and nothing to do with those from here, for example an ice cream on the beach in Starabaska cost us 10kunas to change 90 euro cents.

Croatia by motorhome or camper: regulations

  1. All over Croatia is forbidden to spend the night in the street or public parking lots, If you do not comply, they will be fined for it, so you should always spend the night in a campsite or in motorhome and camper areas, many of which are in private homes. A slightly cheaper option than campsites. The general cost of campsites in the middle of summer is around € 40-50 for 4 people per night. And the areas in private farms are around € 20 per night.
  2. Take by hand in your motorhome or van the green card original of your insurance, it may be that at some border they ask for it.
  3. You can save kilometers until you reach Croatia with ferries. Sometimes it compensates the price they are worth, for the rest and the less kilometers you do to your motorhome or van. Usually it is a ferry from Spain (Barcelona) to Italy and from the other side of Italy to Croatia (Split for example).

Tips for visiting Croatia

  1.  Bring booties for the beaches of Croatia, many are made of stones and you will appreciate it.
  2. Buying local products on the roads is very common. You will see stops where they sell natural honey and royal jelly that they themselves produce, among other local products and from km 0, highly recommended.

The 3 essential destinations in Croatia by motorhome or camper

The big island of krk, 1st stop on our route through Croatia by motorhome

We arrived in Croatia on the island of Krk, Croatia is very big and on this trip we only planned to do the island KRK, the Plitjvice and Zagreb lakes, we had already done some city on the blue coast and Venice, and back we wanted to tour Tuscany.

Island of Krk: location and main towns

This Island that seems unpronounceable is actually pronounced "Kerk" and is the largest island in the Adriatic Sea.

Krk is located in Kvarner Bay, opposite Rijeka, north of the Istrian peninsula and Croatia.

The Island has different population centers. The main towns on the island of Krk are:

  • Krk
  • vrbenik
  • Punat
  • Another
  • Njivice
  • Omisalkh
  • malinska
  • Valbiska

What to see on the Island of Krk

The best of the Island of Krk without a doubt are its beaches. The beaches there are very different from those here, they are all stone so it is advisable to wear booties.

But you also have other things to see and do on the island. Some of the most important are:

  • Visit the little largest village on the walled island of Krk, krk. Visit its historic center, its port and its Cathedral. Also in Krk you can visit the ancient Roman city of Curicum. Also your Frankopan Castle. And lastly, do purchases in their craft stalls.
  • Bathe in the natural pools under the city walls of Krk is also a great plan.
  • Visit Punat, 8 km from Krk, with a beautiful Franciscan monastery, a lot of atmosphere of boats and night party and restaurants.
  • Bathe in the dream beaches of Stara Baska, south of Punat. Where they are, they say the most beautiful beaches on the island. Normally you have to park on the road and go down stairs or through the mountains to access them.
  • Visit Vrbnik one of the most charming coastal towns on the island that is located on top of a cliff and it looks like a medieval tale. Of course all uphill.
  • Visit a fishing village traditional Croatian: Nijvive i discover quiet beaches and paradise here, less crowded than elsewhere, next to the port after walking the Setaliste Antona Koste trail. A path that takes you through coves, a paradise of precious stones.
  • Visit the town of Baska or Maliska and its beaches, the most emblematic town of tourism with children with wide beaches.
  • Visit the town of Omisalkh, well preserved medieval.

Some activities you can do on the island of Krk

  • Go to Valbiska and take one of the ferries to the island of Rab or Cres. Or take a boat trip from Krk or Punat.
  • In the main beaches you can rent kayaks or canoeing and doing water adventure sports, in Njivice there are many activities, for example.
  • Enjoy routes in bike or on foot. In the tourist offices you have triptychs with all the routes. There's a lot

How to access the Island of Krk by motorhome

Well, it's very easy, you just have to cross, after paying a toll, a bridge and you arrive at the beautiful walled town of Krk

Where to spend the night on the island of Krk in a motorhome

In all of Croatia it is forbidden to spend the night in the street or in public parking lots so we decided to spend the night in a garden of a private house that was in park 4 night, upon arrival it was full and the same host recommended us a campsite that was two km away And that would cost us only € 2 more per night. The campsite was super well located right next to the harbor. The name is Camping Bor, we were going to stay for two nights and finally we stayed for 4 because the most beautiful and well-known beaches were relatively close to the campsite.

Plitjvice Lakes Nature Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

From the island of KrK i we went to the Plitjvice Lakes Natural Park recognized by Unesco as a nature reserve and a World Heritage Site. There are 30.000 hectares of pristine nature and an endless network of spectacular waterfalls.

The visit to the impressive turquoise lakes of Croatia

Plitjvice lakes, we visit them in a day, at the campsite they told us that you had to go early since there are long queues both to buy tickets and to access the park, since once you have bought the tickets you have to take buses that take you to the entrance of the route of the Park.

Ideally book and buy tickets for the websites from the Lakes, so you don't have to queue. Tickets are not cheap, about 33 euros per adult and children under 7 years free.

There are different itineraries, all well marked, of different kilometers and time.

En 5 or 6 hours you can see perfectly almost everything main. We took a picnic to eat inside and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Plitvice Lakes are divided into two: the Superior Lakes (12 lakes), and the LLower Ages (4 lakes).

In the lower lakes we find the typical ones in the photos with crystal clear emerald green waters, the largest waterfall in Croatia, the Veliki Slap or "Great Waterfall", and one of the most famous caves in the park, the Šupljara Cave.

Lake Kozjak is the one that connects the Upper with the Lower and is normally crossed by boat.

Finally, warn you that it is forbidden to bathe in all lakes.

Where to spend the night in the Plitjvice Lakes of Croatia by motorhome

We stayed at Camping place Bear, a very cozy family campsite, full of fruit trees from which we were told that we could pick fruit, a very original barn for them to play and an excellent treatment by the hosts who advised us on aspects of the park, type tickets, visiting hours, etc.

Once we finished the visit of the park, we spent one more night at the camping site to rest and the next day we headed towards Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.

3rd essential of our route to Croatia by motorhome: Zagreb, the Croatian capital

What to see in Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital of Croatia. So it is a big city, with great attractions but with a motorhome, like all big cities, it has its drawbacks. For this reason, sometimes it is better to park outside and with public transport to access the city center.

In Zagreb you can see and visit some things like:

  • Visit St. Mark's Square with his precious Church and life.
  • Stroll through the lower city, full of gardens, but also in the upper one of Zagreb, the Gornj Grand, one of the most beautiful areas of the city and with great views, where previously there were two cities other than Zagreb.
  • Visit Zagreb Cathedral and meanders around the Kaptol neighborhood.
  • Stroll through the Dolac Market and buy typical local products and souvenirs at a good price.
  • Try the Croatian beer or eat cheap, because there it is possible in any of its restaurants and bars.
  • Pass by the Stone Gate, the old gate that still stands that divided Zagreb with the two upper cities (now all integrated).
  • Get on the lotrscak tower for about 3 euros and see the whole city.
  • Ride on the funicular Zagreb, the shortest in the world for about half a euro and stroll up the Strossmayer walk, on a hill with beautiful views of the city.
  • Visit National Theatre, a beautiful building and also the Art Pavilion.

Where to spend the night in Zagreb in a motorhome or camper

In Zagreb there is a lot of private parking that for about 75 kuna you can spend the night. We always advise going to less central places.

Also on the outskirts you will find a campsite like the one in Jezerska says that after taking an Uber or by public transport you can get to Zagreb well.
