To start ... 3 maxims about the fortress of La Mola in a motorhome

1 Be responsible in a motorhome: the island is small, do not overcrowd, you see in low season

Before going to Menorca by motorhome you should know that it is a very very small island, so much so that in an hour by motorhome you travel it from end to end. That and the fact that the parking spaces are very small makes the best time to go to Menorca by motorhome is always out of high season, that is, outside of July and August whenever you want.

If you go in July and August in a motorhome, a recommendation: stay in one of the two campsites on the island and get around by motorcycle or in a small rental car.

Under no circumstances do you camp, be responsible, camping is totally prohibited on the island

Camping is prohibited in all of Spain, but Menorca is also a UNESCO Biosphere Heritage Site, for which all the more reason we must be the most respectful of the environment.

We know that the vigilance by the civil guard on the island is maximum before the encampments and that they are fined 200 euros for it because of what colleagues from the island have told us. So, do not camp and do not spend the night in the forbidden places.

REMEMBER, CAMPING IS OUTSTANDING THE PERIMETER OF YOUR VEHICLE (take out table and chairs, awning, open windows ...).

The impressive fortress of Isabel II

Located at the northern entrance to the port, this building is an excellent emblem of the island's military architecture. It leaves no one indifferent. Built in the XNUMXth century on the orders of Queen Elizabeth II, it consists of ten fronts divided into two groups (land defense and maritime defense). It was built to defend against a possible second attack by the British, who had previously seized the island once.

The Fortress of Isabel II It is currently one of the points of Menorca that attracts the most visitors. They say that the fortress has never been attacked and that, therefore, its current state of conservation is excellent. There are guided tours and the prices are affordable 8 Euros the adult and children free.

It really was a visit that surprised us well, perhaps we did not have many expectations and when we discovered it we were amazed. The fortress is really very large and it is full of hiding places, bunkers and underground passages. That, in the first place makes you happy on a hot day, since the subways are always cool, secondly, it surprises you with its labyrinthine grandeur and finally and thirdly, the views of the sea and the island from the viewpoints leave you spellbound towards the horizon.

A curiosity !: here where the most eastern point of all Spain is located and for me the best views of the island!

Where to park and spend the night in the Mola fortress by motorhome

The Mola fortress by motorhome is easily accessible since it has a large parking lot at the entrance of the enclosure. Mind you, it is inclined. The access there narrows in the last section, but it is a very short section.

The car park closes access at 20 pm, so it is not possible to spend the night there.

Before reaching the car park you will also find a small car park with a small quiet cove, you can stop to take a dip, but it is very steep and it is not pleasant to eat or spend the night.

To spend the night we did it in the parking lot at the end of the port of Mahón. A large parking lot of land at the end of the port.
