We usually travel in our motorhome called Kucavana, hence the name of our blog (Anna as a baby didn't know how to say motorhome and said Kucavana), but we also like to travel by bicycle touring or by plane and backpacking. We enjoy every learning experience as a family and we hope to help you enjoy it as much as we do. We do it by traveling.

Castellar de n' Hug
In the Berguedà region, to the south of the Pyrenees, at an altitude of 1.450 metres, in the "Cadí-Moixeró" Natural Park, is Castellar de n'Hug, a town that can be enjoyed all year round.
Castellar de n'Hug, was awarded in 1984 by the Ministry of Tourism for being one of the most beautiful towns in Spain and we attest that it continues to be so. In Catalonia it is one of the outstanding towns within national tourism. Not only for being a beautiful municipality and for having a lot of leisure infrastructure for tourism, but also for being located in a great spot for other visits within the Cadí Moixerró Natural Park.
Castellar is in the heart of the "Cadí-Moixeró" Natural Park and is one of the highest inhabited towns in Catalonia, located near the ski resorts of La Molina and La Marseille.
It is full of active leisure, cultural, historical and industrial tourism, mountain gastronomy and the purchase of artisan products that draw your attention due to their size, such as the famous giant croissant from Castellar de n'Hug. There is no one who comes who does not march with one of them, together with a good "bull or llonganissa" (butifarra and sausage typical of the area).

In hotel or country house
If, on the other hand, you go with your car and look for a hotel in Castellar, you will find a lot of options, from very homely hostels to high-quality rural hotels, you can see them here:

Things to do in Castellar de n'Hug
If you are wondering what to do in Castellar de n'Hug, we assure you that you will be able to do everything if you don't get bored.
Here are some of our favorite proposals:
1 Route to the Fonts del Llobregat, an essential thing to do in Castellar de n'Hug
If there is an emblematic place in Castellar de n'Hug, it is the source of the Llobregat river or, in other words, the Fonts del Llobregat. Some pools and waterfalls where the water suddenly flows to give birth to one of the main rivers of Catalonia that flows near Barcelona.
2 Buy the giant croissant of Castellar de n'Hug, the second essential thing to do in Castellar de n'Hug
The giant croissant from Castellar de n'Hug is a typical delicacy of this municipality. It is characterized by its large size and its traditional croissant shape. It is made with crispy puff pastry. It is a popular breakfast or snack choice in Castellar de n'Hug and is available in many local bakeries and shops throughout the town. The one at Ca la Quima, near the parking lot, is surely the most famous, but the other bakeries in the church square are just as good.
The best of all is to combine the croissant with fuet or sausage from the land, a double delight!
3 Go up to the Balços viewpoint and see a typical dry stone construction
Bordering the church of Santa Maria in the center of Castellar and going up, you will find this viewpoint indicated. A balcony with spectacular views.
Right in front you will find a small typical construction, a shepherd's hut, made of dry stone.
4 Visit the Museo del Pastor or come to the famous international shepherd dog contest, something very cool and famous to do in Castellar de n'Hug
In front of the Balços viewpoint we find the Museo del Pastor. A small rural museum that is not always open and if you want to make sure you can visit it, we recommend you contact: 93 825 70 16 – [email protected].
The Museo del Pastor de Castellar de N'Hug is a museum dedicated to the culture and tradition of the shepherds of the Castellar de N'Hug area in Catalonia, Spain. You can see exhibits of tools and objects related to the life and work of shepherds, as well as historical images and documents.
And for lovers of dogs and this trade, you cannot miss the famous Castellar de n'Hug shepherd dog contest. An international annual event in which shepherds and their dogs from different countries participate. Participants compete in different categories that assess skills such as obedience, control and herding ability of dogs.
If you don't want to miss it, write down the date: Last Sunday in August.
5 Board the cement train and discover the museum of the old Asland cement factory
This train connects the old factory and now the Asland cement museum, located in the Clot del Moro that belongs to Castellar de n'Hug with Pobla de Lillet.
It has a journey of only 3,5 km and 20 minutes, but it passes through different points of tourist interest such as the Artigas de Gaudí gardens and the Cement Museum. A great plan with children.
You can take it from the cement museum a few kilometers from the center of the municipality of Castellar or from La Pobla de Lillet.
They usually leave every hour from 10:30 a.m. to 18:30 p.m., but the days and seasons vary. Also, it only works from April to early November.

6 Eating and eating very well, the essential "must" to do in Castellar de n'Hug
If Castellar de n'Hug has something, it's that it eats wonderfully. It has many restaurants and each one better. All or almost all of them are traditional Catalan home cooking and I eat them in hearty dishes. From the typical escudella, Catalan soup, canalones to grilled meats. Any dish in Castellar will surely make you fall in love.
If we have to recommend a place to you, it is Hostal La Muntanya, traditional Catalan mountain home cooking with generous amounts in all its dishes and heart-stopping desserts. Ohh and right there at night they make wood-fired pizzas!
7 Marvel at the Romanesque architecture of the church of Santa Maria, another essential thing to do in Castellar de n'Hug and other heritage
Castellar's heritage is latent anywhere. From its old stone houses, its narrow alleys to its beautiful Romanesque church of Santa Maria.
But also, you can find hermitages and Romanesque bridges on its surrounding routes.
What to see and do near Castellar de n'Hug
8 Go skiing at the nearby ski resorts of La Masella and Molina
If you are a skier, or you just fancy some leisure time in the snow, 20 minutes from Castellar you will find two of the most famous Catalan ski slopes: La Masella and La Molina.
9 Visit the castle and hermitage of Montgrony
In 30 minutes along a very narrow road you will find the old castle and hermitage of Motngrony, where today you can eat in its restaurant and enjoy wonderful views.
Also in these places, if you like climbing you can make some routes.
10 Visit the Jardins d'Artigues de la Pobla de Lillet, Gaudí's most famous gardens
Whether you take the cement train or not, very close to Castellar you will find the Jardines de Artigues. A surprising place by the artist Gaudí that you cannot miss.
Before going, look at the opening hours, in winter they open fewer hours and days: https://turismelillet.cat/tour-item/jardins-artigas/
11 Visit the small town of Gombrèn, the last essential thing to do in Castellar de n'Hug
If you want to live a very rural experience, there is a little touristy town nearby that is worth visiting: Gombrèn. A municipality in a spectacular environment in the middle of the nature of the Capçaleres del Ter i del Freser Natural Park.
