Easy snowshoes with kids with sled and harness

Snowshoe routes kids

Today we want to give you our top tip (or not hehehe) to make snowshoes with little ones, the kind that tire you and plant your bum halfway.

The bad thing is that if they are planted in the middle of the road, as soon as they see the sled they will just stand and start walking hehehe So let each one hehehe

We tell you about our experience.

With our little 6-year-old you can do 3 km with rackets perfectly and even with a good stop to eat twice as much. But our little girl of 3 years, that is another matter. He is one of those who, at a kilometer and a half, plants his butt to the ground and tells you that he can't take it anymore, that it hurts to… So for him, the solution is to take a sled and drag his.

The bad thing as I tell you is that it hardly makes even a millimeter that as there is a sled, it wants to get directly on the sled. I understand perfectly myself I would also plant the culete there and that they would take me for a ride

But of course the oldest of 6 who pulls like none of us, who starts the route "on fire" and comes up being the first always on the route, there comes a moment that from looking out of the corner of his eye at the other and the Sled tells you that he wants too ... And what are you going to do? Well, nothing super dad (in our case the mom is not very super mom for this ...) to power and like the best husky in the Pirena pull, pull, that pulls you on the sled and the little ones on top lol.

Total that with the invention you can do the kilometers you want, which will be more than happy but ... Drag them, you will have to drag them, and everyone you have lol.

And how to make the invention to make snowshoes with children?

Well, very easy, just you need a sled and a harness (climbing, canicross or safety) that you can tie so that the sled is secure.

That does not mean that the little ones are loose inside the sled and therefore we must watch that they do not fall from the sled in complicated areas that we can find along the way. You only remove the danger that the sled with the children inside will roll off at some point.

Bringing ski poles can help you on the climbs. But for helpers who do not carry the sled, it is better to be freed from sticks to pick up and manage children along the way lol.

What routes can you do to start on snowshoes carrying the sled? Snowshoe trails

Well, any racket track enabled and accessible without tugs or chair lifts preferably (if with cable cars) can be a good option.

Most of the well-groomed racket tracks can be found in the Nordic ski resorts, which generally combine cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Although there are ski resorts atpine that also have marked and well accessible routes.

Excursions with snowshoes

To access these snowshoe tracks with children, a symbolic ticket is usually paid, of about 3 or 4 euros. Although if you go through the area of France most of the snowshoe tracks are free, for example those in the Nordic ski resort of Capcir or Font-Romeu.

Some example of cool circuits are the snowshoe tracks of the Nordic ski resort of Tuixent- La Vansa, with spectacular views of the Pyrenees and Cadí and you can park and spend the night with the motorhome or van at the foot of the slopes. Lles de Cerdanya or those of Font Romeu, in France or in Andorra like those of Naturlandia, there are tracks of cool rackets. But then there are also very cool places to make snowshoes in a freer way (without marked tracks) such as Vallter or Núria or Les Angles, by Lake Matemale, among many other places.

Snowshoes for hire

If you do not have rackets and do not want to buy them (they are usually worth between 50 to 120 € a mid-range), you can rent them. Where there are snowshoe tracks, they rent in the same ski resort (for about € 10 per person) (note in Font Romeu that there are no equipment rentals on the same slopes, you have to rent down in the village (for € 6 there are) The sled and harness are sometimes not for rent, so you better take it from home.

Snowshoe boots

There are people who ask us what boots to wear for snowshoes. We recommend good breaks or good high mountain goretex boots. For the routes we do with children, normal breaks are always chosen.

Snowshoe poles

For the issue of whether or not to carry poles to do a snowshoeing route, it will depend on the route. In general, we recommend them, but it is true that if you are going to drag the sled it is better not to take them to have your hands free and hold the rope or move freely with the children.

We do not recommend that you give them sticks for children, they do better without them, they are freer and we also avoid unnecessary risks in falls.

If you have any recommendations for the ideal snowshoeing track, write us a comment, we can all make a map of good sites 🙂

I also leave you here the link to another post about a snowshoeing route to get you started, but this one is to go without a sled because you have to ride a chairlift (which is also fun for everyone and the little ones): http://www.kucavana.es/iniciarse-en-las-raquetas-de-nieve/

Hello. We are considering it for this weekend with our one-year-old daughter. But I have a question. And the downhills? Won't the sleigh run over us?

Hello Nieves, the downhill slopes are the easy part, they go on the sled or we ride with them if they are very small or if it is a short downhill, the path is easy to control 🙂 It's just seeing, depending on the path, the difficult part is the uphill and that's what helps 🙂 A hug and enjoy the snow 🙂
