The official language of Mallorca is Spanish, although Mallorcan , a dialect of Catalan , is also commonly spoken . Due to the large influx of tourists to the island, much of the population speaks English , and it is also very common for staff in tourist services to speak German.

The census amounts to 941.470 inhabitants (Statista, 2020).
A delicious gastronomy
Balearic cuisine is a true delight, forged in the heart of the Mediterranean. You can find a wide variety of flavors and exquisite, top-quality products such as olive oil, ensaimada, sobrasada , coca de trempó, cheese, wine, flaó, herbs, sea salt… all of them linked to the land.
Among the island's typical dishes, you absolutely must try arròs brut. This soupy rice dish is prepared with meat, traditional Mallorcan sausages like sobrasada and butifarrón, and also includes vegetables and mushrooms. You'll discover everything from old wine cellars (cellers) converted into traditional restaurants to typical tapas bars, small family-run establishments by the sea, and authentic culinary sanctuaries with Michelin stars. How to access Mallorca by motorhome: Ferry
Arriving in Mallorca by sea is quite a spectacle. An excellent option is to take the Balearia ferry . We traveled with them and it was a great choice in terms of quality, service, and price.
You can board in Barcelona, Dénia or Valencia. The round-trip price from Barcelona for two adults and two children traveling by motorhome is around 500 euros, although it will depend a lot on how far in advance you take the tickets.
If you travel with a dog, ferrypetfriendly
They are petfriendly which made it possible for us to travel with our dog Max inside the cabin and not be separated from us the whole way. There was even a bowl of water for him inside the cabin.
For the walks, on deck 9 we had a pipican, where Max socialized. Since he did not do anything else hahaha. He went the whole trip without peeing there. That is why I recommend that before boarding, take him for a walk to do his things in the street. Luckily, it was not the first experience, and so we did.
The night ferry to Mallorca in a motorhome, a good option not to find out about the trip
We took the night ferry from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca from Baleària, the best option if you are traveling with children and not to find out about the trip.
It left Barcelona at 22:30 p.m., although at 20:30 p.m. we should already be there waiting for boarding. The journey takes about seven hours. We arrive at 6 in the morning and from there to enjoy.
As we were going in a cabin, we were able to sleep the sea of well, well some more than others, that Jose does not like the sea too much lol.
When you arrive at 22:30 pm you can have dinner or directly to bed, they have restaurant service, just like for breakfast. When we go with the children, we have dinner on French time before leaving home.
Infrastructures and services of Mallorca by motorhome
Mallorca is not an easy island, nor is it friendly to motorhomes and campervans; consider yourselves warned . This is evident simply by looking at the infrastructure and services it offers.
Let's start with the infrastructure: Not a single campsite or motorhome area with services and overnight stay on the entire island, neither public nor private.
And it is that there are no regulations for motorhome areas and the Insular Council for the moment has not wanted to give any permission to private parties or to any City Council that has tried, the last Pollença.
Roads and accessibility in Mallorca by motorhome
Mallorca is made up of a total of 205 roads which add up to 1.578,28 km. Most of the roads that exist on the island are conventional, 201, totaling 1.483,68 km. In addition, the island has 4 high-capacity roads 94,6 km that reinforce communication on the island (according to data from the Consell de Mallorca, 2021).
In general, these are wide, two-way roads with shoulders for traveling between towns . However, to access the coastal area, you usually have to take narrow, two-way tracks with no markings or shoulders. In peak season, it must be chaotic, as a motorhome and a car can't pass each other unless one of them stops and maneuvers. We've also noticed that cars often park on these tracks during peak season, which will undoubtedly add to the chaos in July and August.
Finally, point out that along the Serra de la Tramontana you must be clear that they are not narrow but they do not have a shoulder many times and they have many curves.
Emptying and filling of water services in Mallorca for motorhomes
We only have one recycling center in Palma for emptying and filling water tanks from 8 am to 20 pm, and another one at a Repsol gas station in Son Servera . That's all, and overnight stays are not allowed.
Overnight parking signposted in Mallorca for motorhomes
As specific overnight places for motorhomes, we only find a few car parks without services that can be counted on with one palm of the hand (for example, Son Servera or Son Serra de la Marina town hall).
The most common thing we will visit on the island are car parks without much charm shared with other cars and camping is never allowed. About these car parks in general you should know that they are small in most tourist towns, which complicates accessibility and parking a lot in high season. Therefore, remember, do not go in July and August, we totally discourage it, avoid problems.
Majorca law for motorhomes: a lot of vigilance against camping
Specific regulations on motorhomes are non-existent on the island, a lagoon that is only covered by the general legislation of Spain.
Therefore, if a municipality does not prohibit the parking and/or overnight stay of motorhomes by ordinance, we can park and stay overnight without problem , as long as we do not leave the parking markings and do not camp (this is very important).

On the other hand, there are many municipalities on the island that veto us from parking on their streets. Unfortunately, we are not very well received, not even by the Island Tourist Board that we called before coming and they literally told us, «You cannot come, there are no infrastructures for you and we do not agree with this type of tourism in the island". Obviously, our freedom of movement is a constitutional right, and almost like a tantrum, we decided to come.
Camping is strictly prohibited on the island , as it is throughout Spain. We cannot camp anywhere on the island. Not even on private land, since there are no campsites or private motorhome areas, which is where we could camp in the rest of Spain.
And remember, camping means staying in the same place for more than 72 hours or leaving the vehicle's perimeter (opening a simple window, putting up an awning, or putting out a table and chairs is camping).
Advice to avoid camping with heat in Mallorca in a motorhome or camper
That's why, if you're coming in the summer, here's a tip: bring your own air conditioner or a Viesa-type self-contained refrigerator so you don't have to open windows or take anything out, thus avoiding all sorts of fines and staying nice and cool in your camper or motorhome. For us, the Viesa unit is everything 🙂 It should be standard equipment, not an extra; we always say that. That way, many people would stop camping and they'd stop prohibiting us from visiting unique places.
Remember camping is: leaving the perimeter of the vehicle (opening windows, awning or taking out a table and chairs ...).
The best time to come to Mallorca by motorhome or camper: low season
Without a doubt, late May, June, September, and early October are the best times of year if you want to swim at the beaches. There are no crowds, although it does start to get busy, making it easy to get around, park, and stay overnight without any problems.
Of course, don't even think about coming in July and August, it must be crazy. The island is small, it is crowded those months and only with cars everything is full and inaccessibility increases. The motorhomes on the island ask us to clarify this. Do not come in July and August for the good of all, there is no specific infrastructure for motorhomes and here everything collapses.
Now, as we mentioned above, a Viesa air conditioner or a self-contained air conditioner should be mandatory for traveling in a motorhome or campervan during the summer , since the heat and lack of campsites make it difficult to live comfortably inside. With our Viesa, we didn't even open a window during a heatwave. Viesa doesn't give us a commission, haha, but seriously, if we want to be truly comfortable, this extra is one of our top recommendations to avoid fines in the summer.

This stone village is surrounded by an inspiring landscape that has attracted artists such as the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and his lover, the writer George Sand, in 1838, as well as Unamuno, Rubén Darío, and Azorín. The quaint terraced houses that line the streets are picturesque, and although small on the outside, they often boast unique gardens and flower-filled areas. Valldemossa is a peaceful place, although in the summer months the village experiences a surge in tourists, bringing with them a lively atmosphere.

And if you like viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean Sea , don't miss the Mirador de s'Escaleta or the Finca Mirador and the iconic rock formation of Sa Foradada, you'll find it on the way to Deia, the parking is small so in July and August we don't think there will be any space.

There are different paid car parks during the day (2 euros 1 hour), free at night, at the entrance of the municipality on the right hand side and if you are very long like us in the street of the second car park on the right at the end there are wide horizontal places if you go in low season.
[03] Deia in motorhome

Its honey-colored stone houses, its beautiful and winding streets, and a mountainous and almost idyllic setting make this village a highly coveted place, especially for wealthy people.
The English poet and novelist Robert Graves catapulted Deià to fame when he moved to the village in the 30s. From then on, the town began attracting a steady stream of creative people and quickly earned its reputation as home to a thriving community of artists and musicians. The bohemian spirit is still present.

At the entrance of the municipality on the same road is the only place to park and we advise against spending the night due to the inclination and location. There is really very little parking in Deia, so in July and August it will be very difficult to access.

Visit Sóller and you'll feel like you're in one of those island towns that seem to live in another era without sacrificing modern comforts. [06] Gorg Blau reservoir by motorhome
Simply fascinating!
The Gorg Blau reservoir is an enclave of calm beauty. Although it seems that it is a natural lake, Gorg Blau emerged in the early 70s. In Spanish the name means "blue pool". A good description for this body of water, which has a spectacular tonality of this color.
It is surprising that it is located between the two largest Mallorcan slopes, which provides a notable verticality to its sides. To the west is the Puig Mayor, with 1445 meters. On the other side, the Puig Massanella, with 1364.
Access by road is easy. Besides ample parking, there are paths around the artificial lake that allow you to walk around it. Although not signposted, they are easy to follow with the help of a mobile GPS. There are also easy hiking options that stay along the lake's edge and allow you to discover an archaeological site and two talayots (prehistoric stone structures).

[07] Puerto Pollença, beach and Formentor lighthouse by motorhome
Puerto Pollensa boasts a genuine history as a fishing village. Its rapid transformation began at the start of the 20th century, when it became a popular summer destination for Mallorca's wealthy classes, many of whom built large holiday homes overlooking the harbor.

If you want to sleep in the Formentor area, you can only do it in the Formentor beach car park (free night, payday), at the lighthouse it is totally prohibited. And remember from 19:10 p.m. to get on and off before XNUMX a.m. to avoid unexpected gifts. The road is winding and certain sharp curves, perhaps if you are too long you will have to maneuver, in a curve, be very careful!
To park and spend the night in Puerto and Playa de Pollença we recommend you do it in one of the streets near the school, to the left of the port.

S'Albufera de Mallorca

The park is an ideal location for migratory birds arriving from Africa, attracting ornithologists and birdwatchers from all over the world. S'Albufera offers four different routes for walkers, cyclists, and birdwatchers.

Right in front of S'Albufera you can enjoy the lively and extensive Muro beach . After a good walk around S'Albufera, we recommend crossing the road and taking a dip in its waters.

To park in Alcudia town we do it in one of its two car parks at the north or south entrances. In the Port of Alcúdia we park and spend the night near the Port where there is a dirt parking. To park in S'Albufera we just did it in the s'Albufera parking lot and from there we walked to the beach of Muro opposite.
[09] Son Serra de Marina and Son Real

If you like long beaches, surfing and swimming without overcrowding, you will like Son Serra de Marina.
It is a municipality that seems more than a town an urbanization of houses without much commerce or restoration. A place visited by surfers on the island.

Tourism has practically not reached the town of Capdepera and, therefore, it continues to be a residential town mostly populated by Mallorcan residents.
Capdepera Castle
From ancient times, the walled town expanded into the surrounding areas, using stones from the original fortifications for the subsequent construction of houses. The original 14th-century castle, known as "Castell de Capdepera," is still preserved.
Cove Agulla
These charming spots coexist with nearby resorts offering more traditional sun, sand, and beach holidays. One example is Cala Agulla, where we recommend visiting and staying overnight (though camping is not always an option) thanks to its ample parking.
What to see
Capdepera Castle: one of the most interesting tourist attractions. A legendary castle dating back to the 14th century. Entry costs €3 for adults. It was built to defend the town within its walls against pirate attacks from the sea. Also, don't miss the Medieval Market, the old town, the Church of Sant Joan, the Canyamel Tower, and the beaches and coves.

Where to park and spend the night in a motorhome
Here we park on the entrance street to the municipality where the Lidl and other supermarkets are located. To spend the night we recommend you go to Cala Agulla to its large parking lot of € 12 per day for motorhomes, one-time payment for the day.
[11] Son Servera in a motorhome
Son Servera is an inland town whose municipality boasts some of Mallorca's most charming beaches. It's characterized by its tranquility and lack of tourism, making it ideal for a peaceful getaway.
But above all, you should know that Son Servera is one of only two places on the entire island where you can empty and fill your motorhome's water tanks. Here at the Repsol station at the roundabout at the entrance to the town, you can get your motorhome serviced in exchange for refueling. Plus, you can wash your motorhome for a very reasonable price!
It is one of the towns on the eastern coast of Mallorca and has a wide gastronomic offer, making it ideal for spending a relaxing holiday in contact with the rural and natural environment.

Santanyí is a beautiful town that enjoys a privileged location and a spectacular natural environment, with some 48km of stunning coastline.
The atmosphere of the place seems tailor-made for creative people , which is why it attracts numerous international artists. It's easy to stumble upon art galleries and studios in the narrow streets.
You don't have to look far to discover part of Santanyí's pirate past... the fortified city wall and Porta Murada still stand as a symbol of past generations and their constant fear of pirate attacks.
Come to Cala Llonga and discover the ruins of a fortress built in the XNUMXth century in order to avoid invasions. Along the coast you can see more defense towers.
Whether for the scenery or an interest in art, Santanyí is well worth a visit. The local market , with its unique local wares, is held every Saturday .
Montdragó Natural Park

The municipality preserves the charm of its traditional origins, with the old stone houses and a flotilla of boats in the port.
A walk through the town leads to the beautiful statue of a mermaid, in the street of San Jorge or to the old Torre des Falcons, a XNUMXth century watchtower, which rises above a hidden cave and from which you can see the lighthouse of the tip of the Carbassa. In the Plaza del Carmen is the church of the Mare de Déu del Carme, in honor of the patron saint of sailors.

Don't miss the subterranean wonders of Europe's largest caves, with their ancient stalagmites and stalactites. The Caves of Drach conceal a vast underground lake, Lake Martel, considered one of the largest subterranean lakes in the world.

The town of Campos
Campos is loved for its rural splendor and magnificent beaches.
This municipality preserves much of the old Mallorcan charm, with its winding streets and traditional stone buildings. The oldest records of Campos date back to 1300 AD, when the town was founded by King James II, around Roman settlements.
In this charming place, several historical buildings remain, such as the church of Sant Julià, which houses the famous painting of Christ painted by Murillo. There are also exhibitions in the Sister María Rafaela museum and in the church of San Julián.
Es Trenc-Salobrar Natural Park
Most of the attractions in Campos are natural. The town has good access to national parks, forests and mountains and to the famous es Trenc beach with its salt flats. This sandy beach with crystal clear waters is almost unexploited. Many have compared its beauty to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. In addition, there is a nudist hole.

To visit the area of Parc Natural es Trenc we park and spend the night in the Sa Rápita car park, cost € 5 the whole day, free night. It is about 10 minutes from Cala de Ses Covetes and a very cool beach bar area and 15-20 from Es Trenc. In Campos we parked in front of a supermarket at the entrance.

If you're looking for an authentic place to experience traditional Mallorcan culture, it will be hard to beat what Llucmajor has to offer.
Llucmajor
This charming place emerges amidst fields of almond and apricot trees . It also boasts a rich history. After a thriving past in agriculture and stone, iron, and wood crafts, it became a footwear mecca during the 20th century , producing brands like Farrutx and Yanko. The 1950s marked the birth of tourism.
The town, designed like a giant chessboard, boasts beautiful architecture. Undoubtedly, the heart of Llucmajor lies in the Plaza de España. The triangular shape of the square is bordered by trees that provide ample shade.
Talayotic archaeological site of Capocorb Vell
Here lies Mallorca's oldest settlement, the Talayotic site of Capocorb Vell. It is also the first region on the island where the Romans planted vineyards, whose wine was recognized as the best in the Roman Empire.
Vi Rei Winery, Guided Train Tour and Wine Tasting
We absolutely loved the Little Train experience , a guided tour and wine tasting at Vi Rei Winery, which we did with our children. You travel through the largest vineyards in the Balearic Islands on an iconic train, and along the way, you learn about the most important grape varieties, both local and international. They also explain the annual cycle of the vine and its cultivation, and you'll see farm animals like sheep and deer. Next, you enjoy a guided tour of the production facilities. You'll see the fermentation room, the barrel room, and the bottling area, finishing in the wine tasting room. An eight-wine tasting accompanied by a selection of locally sourced appetizers—they even make their own sobrasada! Amazing!
Cala Pi
Finally, Cala Pi emerges as one of the best beaches in the area, although it is so small and with so little parking that it will be difficult to park, in addition to where we parked the restaurant in front, it asked us to leave because we blocked the views of its clients ... I'm saying no more ...

To park in Cala Pi there is a small parking lot in front of the viewpoint that if you go late you can be lucky and find a place like us (we arrived at 7 in the morning!). There you can also spend the night. To see the Talayotic town and the Vi Rei wineries, they have parking in front of them and if you ask for sure they will not put you in trouble overnight, the only thing is that the wineries close their doors at night.
