Discover an inspiring journey through Slovenia by camper or motorhome. A destination that will seduce you with its impressive landscapes!
About @viajoconmiautocaravana
We are Franc and Tere.
We love traveling in our motorhome . We usually take three trips a year (Easter, summer, and Christmas) and weekend getaways whenever we can.
Lately we go to the mountains a lot, but we also like to visit towns, cities, beaches, museums, monuments ...
Ten years ago we decided to try traveling with our home on our backs and rented a Marco Polo for a four-day weekend. We were hooked! We bought a California which we had for two years, the next step was a large volume camper which we also had for two years and currently we have a small motorhome which is perfect for the two of us.
We really like to do installations, little DIYs and improvements in our AC to enjoy all the comforts and feel at home in it.

Traveling in Slovenia by camper or motorhome: everything you need to know before leaving
Regulations on overnight stays and camping in Slovenia
When traveling through Slovenia in a motorhome, you should know that wild camping is not allowed in this country.
In many car parks there are even signs forbidden to park motorhomes from 22 pm to 7 am.
When we travel to countries where wild camping is prohibited, we prefer to sleep in campsites or designated overnight areas. This is for safety and to avoid a hefty fine.
Services for motorhomes and campers
There are quite a few campsites and overnight areas in Slovenia. All the ones we've stayed at (except one in Ljubljana) have water disposal and refill facilities.
Campsites do not usually have delimited plots as we are used to in Spain and they all have grass.
And those in the most touristy places have beautiful and super fun children's areas for the little ones.
Roads and tolls in Slovenia
The main roads are fine, but on the mountain roads you can find sections with poor asphalt, and if you add to that the curves and the fact that they are not very wide, you can see that in Slovenia you have to drive at low speed.
To drive on the motorway, you need to buy a vignette and affix it to the windshield of your motorhome. Vignettes are available for one week, one month, and one year.
The weekly vignette costs €15 and can be purchased at gas stations, post offices and some kiosks.
We only traveled one day on the highway to save a few kilometers and some time. We buy a weekly vignette at a post office.
The best and worst of our route through Slovenia by motorhome
What we liked the most
- Little overcrowding (keep in mind that we went in July, not August)
- Lots of nature
- Kindness of the people
- Easy to find places to spend the night
- Prices very similar to Spain
- Very clean and well-kept towns and cities
What we liked the least
The only thing we didn't like about Slovenia is that even in the most touristy places we couldn't find guides, explanations, or brochures in Spanish . But I think we should ask ourselves: are there Slovenian-speaking guides in tourist areas in Spain?

01 | TOLMINSKA KORITA (TOLMIN THROAT)
An easy three-kilometer hike with quite a few steps. The color of the river water is stunning.
You can park your motorhome in parking 2 and there is a free bus to the entrance.
Ticket price: € 10
Overnight:
Kamp Ruth (Kobarid)
A nice simple campsite, but with all the services.
Lots of grass, soccer field and children's area.
If you go, be careful with the GPS indications. He indicated us by a very narrow path, it is not this. You have to get to Kobarid and turn right, there are signs.
Price: € 20 / night (motorhome + 2 adults)

02 | KOZJAC WATERFALL
We thought it was a very charming place.
The journey to the waterfall is very easy. At the beginning you will see the Soca river with its impressive water and then you will enter a path in the forest with the stones covered with moss where the green color is the protagonist. In total about 6 km.
It is very nice when you get to the waterfall to see the light that passes through a crack in the rock.
Ticket price: € 5
03 | BOKA WATERFALL
It's one of the tallest waterfalls in Slovenia . It has a huge volume of water and you can see it from the road that connects Bovec and Zaga.
We parked the motorhome in a parking lot right next to a hotel and walked up to a viewpoint in about 15 minutes. There is quite a slope, but it is a short section with a lot of shade.
04 | VIRJE WATERFALL
We parked the campervan at the Bovec golf course (€5). There's a small bar and a nice terrace to have a drink after visiting the waterfall.
It is not one of the most visited in Slovenia. There is a nice journey to get to Virje.
05 | VRSIC STEP
A scenic road with 50 hairpin bends and very narrow. It's worth making several stops along the way. It's the highest mountain pass in Slovenia.
06 | KRANSJSKA GORA
A town in the Julian Alps and a center for mountain sports. In winter, they hold ski competitions , and in Planica, top ski jumpers attempt record-breaking leaps. Cyclists climb Slovenia's highest mountain pass, and hikers can enjoy all kinds of trails.
07 | PLANICA VALLEY / NADIZA WATERFALL
A beautiful and very easy hike through the Planica Valley in Triglav National Park. At the start of the route, you can see the largest ski jumps in Europe.
The refuge can be reached without any difficulty, there are people who go up on bicycles and in 20 more minutes you will arrive at the Nadiza Waterfall. In total approximately 9 kilometers
08 | ZELENCI NATURAL RESERVE
A spectacular place with lots of fauna and flora, but the most impressive thing is the Emerald Green Lake at the end of the tour.
The water emerges from the lake itself and you can see the bubbles due to its transparency.
You can park the car right at the beginning of the route. There are only about 200 m. from the parking lot to the lake.
09 | PERICNIK WATERFALL
One of the tallest waterfalls in Slovenia. Its unique feature is that you can walk behind it.
We went with the motorcycle until the beginning of the route. I think I remember that the road was quite narrow, but when we got to the car park there was a motorhome
10 | MARTULJEk WATERFALL
We begin our hike to the waterfall at Spik Campsite. The beginning is like a botanical trail where you see signs with the names of the plants.
It is a nice tour through the Zgornjesavska Valley with quite a difference in altitude.
We ate in the PriIngotu hut with spectacular views.
11 | LAKE JASNA
Two artificial lakes very close to the road. It's lovely to take a stroll around the lake and have a drink on one of the terraces at sunset.
12 | VINTGAR THROAT
The tour through the gorge is done via walkways and bridges and some sections of stairs.
If you go from Kransjska Gora without taking the highway, you will see that there is a “no motorhomes” sign. You can pass without problem and park your car in the parking lot. Of course, we recommend going very early because the parking lot fills up and that is when they do not let you pass.
Entry price: € 10
Parking price: €10
13 | bled
The circular route around the lake is a beautiful walk of about 9 km and we spent a whole afternoon making several stops to swim in the lake.
You can bathe in the designated places or you can look for a corner among the trees where you can take a dip completely alone.
It is recommended to go up to the Ojstrika viewpoint to have spectacular views of Lake Bled.
Overnight:
Bled motorhome areas.
A quiet place to spend a night with emptying, filling and electricity services. Next to a SPAR supermarket, perfect for filling the pantry.
Price: €25/night
14 | LAKE BOHINJ
For us, it's one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia . It's a glacial valley that's very popular for sports activities (hiking, kayaking, fishing, mountaineering, etc.).
Very close to the lake is Vogel, the Ukanc cable car from which you can access the top of Mount Vogel and see spectacular views of the lake.
If you go to Lake Bohinj, do not stay at the beginning, go to the end of the lake and from here the route to the Savica waterfall begins.
Overnight:
Camping Zlatorog
Very well located on the edge of the lake. Unlimited plots and quite crowded, but we found a good place to locate ourselves and be able to enjoy three days in this wonderful place.
There is a children's area and an adventure park for the little ones.
Price: € 40 / night
15 | SAVICA WATERFALL
We start the excursion in the same camping Zlatorog.
From the beginning to the waterfall there are several tests and games for children.
In total about 10 km with little unevenness.
You can get with the AC to the entrance of the Savica waterfall.
Entry price: € 5
16 | VALLEY OF THE SEVEN LAKES (STARA FUZINA)
Beautiful excursion through the Valley of the Seven Lakes.
In total we covered 28 km with 1600 m of elevation gain. It's not a technical or difficult route, but it does require a reasonable level of fitness.
17 | SKOFJA LOKA
A very well-preserved medieval town . You can visit the Capuchin church, the castle, the Hudiceva bridge, and stroll through its streets to see the beautiful buildings.
18 | Ljubljana
The capital of Slovenia. You can visit the Castle, the National Gallery, the central market, the Metelkova district, and stroll along the riverside, enjoying its atmosphere and terraces.
Overnight:
Livada restaurant. About 4 kilometers from Ljubljana. We went with the motorcycle, but the parking lot is very close to the road and there is a bus that takes you to Ljubljana.
It has no service and you only pay for parking. We had a quiet night, but it was the worst place we slept in the whole trip. Still fine to stay overnight and visit Ljubljana.
You have to cross the road and pay at the restaurant.
Price: € 10 / night.

19 | VELIKA FLAT
The largest shepherd village in Europe. The quickest way to reach Velika Planina is by cable car from Kamniška Bistrica, followed by a two-seater chairlift to the summit. You can park your car in Kamniška Bistrica and enjoy a pleasant walk through pine forests and meadows, watching the cows and listening to their bells. You can sample dairy delicacies and admire the charming shepherd's huts with their fir-thatched roofs that almost reach the ground. Some of these huts are now tourist accommodations.
Cable car + chairlift price: €17
20 | SOLCAVA PANORAMIC ROAD
One of the most scenic roads in Slovenia. It begins in Solcava and crosses the Logar Valley between small villages.
It has several points of interest to stop at ( farms where they sell local products, viewpoints, churches, small restaurants where you can eat typical Slovenian Alpine food…)
We ate in a small hotel/restaurant with a nice garden (Planinski Dom Majerhold)
We did it with the motorcycle. It is a narrow road with curves and some unpaved sections. If you are very daring, you can do it with the AC.

Overnight:
Ambroz Gregor Farm.
Very quiet place surrounded by mountains near Solcava.
Price:
€ 20 / night
21 | PANORAMIC ROAD LOGARSKA DOLINA
About 2 km. From the Ambroz Gregorc Farm, the road that runs through the Logar Valley leaves (there is a fee: € 8)
The Logarska dolina valley is one of the three valleys in the Solčavsko area; once there you can also visit the other two, Robanovkot and Matkovkot.
It can be done with a motorhome and at the end of the road there is a fairly large parking lot to go up to see the Rinka Waterfall.
22 | RINKA WATERFALL
From the parking lot it's about a 20-minute walk to the waterfall. We wanted to extend the hike a little to the refuge , but the heavy rain forced us to turn back.
23 | POSTOJNA CAVE
A must-see karst cave. It's home to a species unique in the world, the olm or "human fish." The tour lasts approximately two hours, and much of it is done on a small train.
The visit is guided, but there are no Spanish-speaking guides. We saw at the entrance that there are audio guides for €3,5.
We bought the tickets for the Postojna cave and the Predjama Castle online to avoid the queues. There was not a large crowd, but they are very visited places.
Ticket price Postojna Cave + Predjama Castle: €38,50
24 | PREDJAMA CASTLE
It's a castle built at the mouth of a cave, overlooking a precipice over 100 meters high. It's about 9 km from Postojna, and there's a bus that takes you there after visiting the cave. We went by motorbike. You can drive a campervan to the castle, but I seem to recall that parking for campervans is difficult; there isn't much space.
The two visits can be done more or less in about 4 hours.
25 | SKOCJAN CAVE
There are about 8 kilometers of underground passages with impressive caves, a river and several waterfalls.
It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site , and it's no wonder, because it's absolutely stunning. For us, it's a must-see in Slovenia.
The visit is guided and lasts about two hours or three hours if you choose the long route.
Keep in mind that you have to go down and up about 500 steps.
Cave entrance price: €24
Overnight:
4 km. from Skocjan cave.
The campsite is fine, there are no marked pitches and there is plenty of space, but it is not suitable for motorhomes.
There is a narrow road with a very sharp curve and it was difficult for us to get out with the small AC. Yes it is suitable for camper.
Price: € 26 / night

26 | ISOLA
Our intention was to go to Piran, but we had read that it is very difficult to park there with AC. We decided to park in Izola and go to Piran with the motorcycle.
The beach is unusual; there's no sand. People put towels and hammocks on the promenade and access the water via some steps.
In Izola we went to three areas to try to park and there was no space. In addition, there were many people on the coast and that plus the high temperatures made us give up visiting the Slovenian coast. The visit to Izola was fleeting.
Change of plans! We decided to spend the three days that we were going to spend on the Slovenian coast in Chamonix-Mont Blanc, an advantage of traveling with the house on our backs!
And that concludes our campervan or motorhome trip through Slovenia. We hope it inspires you and sparks your curiosity to explore this beautiful country.
