We're continuing to tell you about our family bike trip around Lake Constance this summer. It was an almost 180 km adventure, cycling together and staying at campsites in our tent, which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Today is the 2nd stage, 2nd day on the road, of this adventure after yesterday's Stage 1, Day 1 Lake Constance route by bike: From Fußach, Austria, to Arbon, Switzerland (38 km).

About us
We are the Kucavana family , and we travel with our two children and our adopted dog, Max. We usually travel in our motorhome, also called Kucavana, hence the name of our blog (as a baby, Anna couldn't pronounce "motorhome" and said "Kucavana"). But we also enjoy traveling by bicycle, by plane, and backpacking—the point is to have adventures as a family. The one writing this is me, Pilar, the mom of the family and perhaps the craziest one. I enjoy every new experience we have as a family, and I hope to help you enjoy traveling as much as we do.

Videoblog Stage 2 Lake Constance by bike
Stage 2: From Arbon, Switzerland, to Konstanz in Germany, 41 km in the middle of a heat wave
We start this stage with desire and getting up early to avoid the heat wave that loomed over us. How crazy! Yesterday was intense, and the heat threatens To overcome oneself today. The Central European heat wave is making us start the route through Lake Constance en bike unexpectedly. But that doesn't stop us, we are ready for the action and the family pedaling!
The Swiss side of Lake Constance is undoubtedly picturesque, but this leg of the trip turned out to be rather dull in terms of sights and interesting things to see—we hardly saw a single town the whole way! Basically, we cycled alongside the railway tracks , over and over again. Come on, a little variety wouldn't have hurt, Northern Switzerland of Lake Constance!
To make matters worse, the heatwave has us trapped today! Some steep ups and downs and scorching sun —this is getting tough! But amidst the monotony, we found a treasure: a hidden beach on the lake.
A refreshing dip was our reward and treasure halfway there!
Before that, we wanted to visit Locorama , a vintage train museum about 10 kilometers from Arbon in Romanshorn , but when we arrived we discovered it was only open on Sundays. What a disappointment!
Luckily, after a few kilometers, in the middle of nowhere, we found a cafe by Lake Constance with a nice terrace where we could get an ice cream.
The anecdotes, however, didn't stop there. When we went to pay, the lady told us that they only accepted " cash ," and we didn't have a single Swiss franc ... And the nearest town with an ATM was several kilometers away where we could withdraw money... Luckily, we weren't the only tourist cyclists this had happened to, and the lady let us pay in euros —and she even had change!
Summary: Everything in life has a solution except one thing. Let's keep pedaling! After hours of effort, we finally reached the gates of Constance , in Germany , but the adventure wasn't over yet.
We made a mistake, we got confused about the bike lane and bam! 5 extra kilometers under the relentless sun on an endless hill that we even climbed twice to add insult to injury for the double mistake.
What an odyssey! We've earned an award for our perseverance today!
Our arrival in Constanta
Fate rewarded us; we arrived in the center of Constanza. Without thinking twice, we dove into the lake, clothes and all.
What a glorious feeling! Since it was so hot, luckily we weren't the only ones taking a bath dressed hehe and no one was looking at us hehe
The Bodensee Card
Once refreshed, we rushed to the tourist office in search of the famous Bondensee Cards. These cards offer access to 160 attractions, museums, and activities around Lake Constance in all three countries.
How wonderful! We plan a lot of visits and things to do in the next few days.
But in the end, reality exceeded expectations, and although we enjoyed some attractions, we discovered that the Bondensee Cards were not as cost-effective as we had hoped, since our tiredness also prevented us from doing as much as we would have liked.
It doesn't matter, the adventure is what counts!

Well deserved rest at the campsite and ready for more
After such a hot and hard day, my faithful migraine reminded me that I needed urgent rest just a few meters from arriving at the campsite.
The shade of our tent was an oasis! The campsite on the shores of Lake Constance was simply perfect, with chairs and tables to enjoy a peaceful dinner and a nice lakeside beach for a swim.
In short, we overcome the hardest stage of our bicycle route with children around Lake Constance. And now we are looking forward to what awaits us tomorrow!
