By highway

Our trusty motorhome took us to the falls without a hitch on a good road. What a thrill when we finally caught sight of this natural wonder in the distance! If you're traveling by car, motorhome, or campervan, you can rest assured, the access roads are good. Just be careful with your GPS, as it might send you down an entrance with a very narrow, low bridge that we almost missed. Who needs roller coasters when you can have twists and turns on the real road? That's our GPS for you—the adventurer!

Rhine Falls from Zurich: How to get there with public transport

If you decide to depart from Zurich, good news! There are train connections that will take you directly to the falls. It's an excellent option if you prefer to leave the driving to others and simply relax while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Another great value and super convenient option is to book this Rhine Falls tour from Zurich, which includes the bus, an English and Spanish speaking guide, and entrance to Laufen Castle at a very good price.

Where to park at the Rhine Falls

Parking at the Rhine Falls was easier than we expected. There are several parking options available, all very spacious and close to the entrance, so you'll find a spot for your vehicle without any trouble. However, be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for parking around the Falls; it cost us €33 for just a few hours. But parking further away... I wouldn't recommend it, given the hills and the narrow town.

On the other hand, think that it may be the only thing you pay since the entrance is free to see the Rhine Falls.

What to see in the Rhine Falls and what to do there

Once you arrive at the Rhine Falls, prepare to be overwhelmed by the majesty of the place. The thunderous roar of the water crashing against the rocks is as exhilarating as a roller coaster. What's more, the panoramic views are simply spectacular. Don't forget your camera and capture this unforgettable moment! You'll definitely take a thousand photos.

What you'll see there is breathtaking: these waterfalls are a stunning display of nature's powerful force, created over 15.000 years ago when the Rhine River shifted its course. Imagine tons of water roaring and tumbling from an astonishing height, creating a spectacle that will leave you speechless. The waterfall is 150 meters wide, plunging 23 meters below.

Just above the Falls you can see Wörth Castle , which you can also reach by boat to cross over.

And down below, at the base of the falls, and the main access point to the Rhine Falls in Switzerland, you will see the Laufen Palace, which serves as the Visitor Centre for the site, where there is an interactive exhibition about the falls and a children's playground, with shops and restaurants all around.

My children couldn't contain their excitement when the water droplets started splashing on them. It was a refreshing and exciting feeling that kept us laughing the whole time. Of course, I was not left behind and joined in the fun, allowing the cold and powerful water to envelop us as we got closer and closer to the falls in one of its viewpoints.

Put on your appropriate gear and be prepared to get wet as you embark on an unforgettable adventure if you get too close at any of the viewpoints.

See the Rhine Falls by boat

There are several boat tour options . A very affordable one, around €3 per person, takes you across the Rhine to the viewpoints on the right, where the Castle is located. You can reach the castle on foot for free or by glass elevator for a fee. Another option is to take a boat, this one more expensive, and cruise along the base of the falls for a thrilling 5 minutes. And finally, the ultimate tour, the one that takes you all the way up to the central rock, leaving you speechless and dripping wet if you're not wearing a raincoat.
