Warsaw by motorhome on our route through Poland
What to keep in mind?

On your trip through Poland by motorhome, you should get to know Warsaw by motorhome, the capital of the country that exudes a special charm due to its resistance in times of war and its flourishing modernity.

Our visit to Warsaw by motorhome was 2 days and in the mornings we had the pleasure of having Iza as the official tourist guide who showed us all the secret corners of the city. We loved walking around the city with her, she speaks Spanish perfectly and as a local she knows all the best corners, the best places to eat or shop, legends and she helped us at all times with Polish and our doubts about the country.

Warsaw is a city that allows for 4 or 5 days of visit, although with 2 days we were able to see the essentials, thanks in part to doing it with a guide.

We advise you if you go to Warsaw by motorhome or whatever you hire an official Spanish-speaking guideIt helps a lot to understand the reality of the country and not to miss anything. The Polish language is very complicated, there are few people who speak English well and a guide is very helpful. I leave you the phone number of Isa, which you can contact by whatsapp to hire her at 00 + 48 696 410 142, is a wonderful, open and charming person with children. If you go as a family, we recommend it 100%. If you cannot or want another guide, remember that the tourist offices can always provide you with other contacts of local official guides.

10 Things to see in Warsaw

Warsaw is the extensive capital of Poland. What is most striking is its architectural variety, which undoubtedly reflects the long and turbulent history of the city, from Gothic churches and neoclassical palaces to Soviet-period building blocks and modern skyscrapers.

Its heart is the Market Square, with pastel-colored buildings and outdoor cafes. The local symbol is the Monument of the Mermaid.

Warsaw is one of those places that surprises you and leaves you wanting more. Although it was one of the European cities worst hit by World War II (90% was left in ruins), Warsaw exudes a special charm that revolves around resistance in times of war, the communist past and flourishing modernity.

Here is a list of places to see in Warsaw:

1 Warsaw Old Town

The Old Town of Warsaw is a unique place. It was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 1980. It will be for a reason.Your visit to Warsaw is worth starting from the Old Town. There you will find a historic city completely rebuilt stone by stone by the Warsawians, after the Nazis as revenge against the Warsaw uprising devastated the city and will leave practically no buildings standing. Enter through the reconstructed walls and go to the Castle Square, see the Royal Castle, the Column of Sigismund III, the Warsaw Mermaid (her symbol, the fruit of a legend), the house where Marie Curie was born and the little basilisk dragon that He petrified people with his gaze, the Cathedral, the bell that grants wishes ... among other emblematic corners of the old town. There are also restaurants and shops that will make your day more enjoyable.

A walk through the old town is pure pleasure!

2 Presidential Palace

It was built in the 1640s. Although originally a baroque palace in the style of Genoese residences, it is now the seat of the President of the Republic of Poland. The most important room in the palace is the Hall of Columns.

3 The Palace of the Culture and Science

The Palace of Culture and Science is the tallest building in Poland, it has up to 42 floors, although now they are building a taller skyscraper just behind it. It was a gift from Stalin to the Polish people after World War II as a symbol of friendship towards Poland. Its interior is characterized by a monumental realistic socialist style. There you will find exhibition halls. In summer, the surroundings of the palace become a stage for many interesting concerts, and in winter, an ice rink. The Observation Terrace on the 30th floor is open every day, you can buy the ticket and take the elevator to see the incredible views from there.

4 The ramparts and the barbican of Warsaw

When visiting Warsaw, it is also worth seeing the Barbican, also rebuilt but very beautiful. It is an element of the defensive walls of the Old Town, which was built around 1548. Its initial assumption was to increase the security of entry to Old Warsaw and provide defense.

5 Mostowski Palace and Wilanów Palace

Speaking of monuments in Warsaw, you cannot ignore visiting some of its palaces. For example the Mostowski Palace. After the war, it housed the headquarters of the Citizen Militia, and is currently the Headquarters of the Capital Police.

The Wilanów Palace is one of the most visited monuments in Warsaw. It is a baroque building, which is a great combination of European art and the old Polish building tradition. There is a park next to the palace. This palace really is beautiful.

6 Lazienki Royal Park and the Royal Summer Palace

Among peacocks and friendly squirrels in this royal park you will find endearing places. It not only houses the Royal Summer Palace and other palaces of the royal family, you will also find the space dedicated to Chopin. Here, every Sunday they play Chopin music live. On the other hand, in this park you will find benches where Chopin's music plays, a Chinese garden, a Renaissance-style amphitheater, ponds and many other corners full of peace and charm.

Especially if you go with children, bring some peanuts for the squirrels and do not forget to call them saying "Baxa Baxa" as the Poles call them there, this was taught to us by Iza, our guide, and it really worked and the squirrels came and we didn't bring food hehehe

7 Park of multimedia sources

The Multimedia Fountain Park is located at the foot of the old town. It is a complex of four fountains that was inaugurated in 2011. In this beautiful place, you can see a unique spectacle of water, sound and light. Such an interesting combination guarantees an unforgettable experience. It is entertainment for everyone, regardless of age, although we could not see the show as it only works on Friday and Saturday nights.

8 Traces of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944

On our trip to Warsaw by motorhome we were fortunate enough to be able to attend one of the most emotional moments in the city, the day of the commemoration of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Every August 1 this commemoration is celebrated with peaceful marches through the city between sirens and silences broken by applause and tears. On that day thousands and thousands of people are remembered who trying to fight, in a rebellion that lasted 63 days, against the occupation of the Hitler regime in 1944 lost their lives. And it is that Hitler, as revenge for the Warsaw uprising, ordered to destroy and burn the entire city of Warsaw, today almost completely rebuilt. But it not only devastated all of Warsaw but also its civilians, 200.000 victims lost their lives then. A massacre that still gives goose bumps and that every Warsawian does not forget, since there were many traces it left on almost all families.

There are also many traces that remain in the city. First of all, you can visit the monument to the Warsaw Uprising, a place where what happened is remembered and how part of the population fled through the sewers. Then you can visit the sculpture tribute to the children who had to grow up in the war and also observe vestiges of the war such as the ancient column of Sejismundo killed by shrapnel or pieces of the bombs in some buildings.

9 Vistula River

You can walk along the banks of the Vistula River while you go to bathe at one of its beaches or simply relax in one of its many recreational areas. You can cross to the other side of the Vistula via a free ferry.

10 Copernicus Science Center

The Copernicus Science Center is the first Science Center in Poland. This place is perfect for children, teenagers and adults. It allows us to understand the world around us and the changes that are taking place in it from multiple experiments. A place where touching is an obligation and not a prohibition. We loved it!

Where to park and spend the night in Warsaw by motorhome

As in most large cities and capitals, we chose on our trip to look for a camping or guarded parking lot to park and spend the night with our motorhome.

That is why after seeing the different options that there are in Warsaw about parking lots and campsites, we decided to go to what we thought was the best campsite in Warsaw, the Camping Wok (also called camping 90), a mix between camping and motel that we really liked a lot.

Cleanliness and services are unbeatable, although it is true that it is the most expensive campsite we pay in Poland. In any case, the 30 of us did not reach € 4 per night with the motorhome and dog, and since everything was clean we would return for sure.

The bad thing about campsites sometimes is that they are further away from the center, although in this case you can access it with the bus that passes nearby or take an Uber like we did that saves you time and cost us € 6 per trip, being 4 and with a dog is the best option. The third option to get around is to cycle along the bike path to the center, it takes about 40 minutes to get to the center by bike.
