TIP: If you don't have a motorhome or camper but want to rent one and try this type of trip, remember that the cheapest way and with the best experiences is to rent between individuals for a AirB&B type platform but for motorhomes and campers.
If you are a beginner: routes that you should not do, 4 recommended routes and some tips
Before talking about our great motorhome routes through Europe, I make this section in case you are new to this. Before you embark on your first motorhome adventure, let me give you some valuable tips.
If you are a beginner, I would surely recommend you to look at other articles that I did days ago, more than this one. I think this is for people who already have a little more experience traveling by motorhome, there are routes that can be quite tedious if you are new.
And it is that traveling by motorhome is not traveling with a small car and with complete freedom as some sell. Traveling by motorhome has its particular things and not so easy. You have to know very well how to move around each country. Each country has its own regulations and context, so it is important to know where we will move.
For example, there are many countries in Europe that totally lack infrastructure for motorhomes, that have hardly any motorhome areas or that even their few campsites do not even have the services we need. In this case I think of countries like Greece, Poland or the Balkan countries, among many others in Europe. There are also countries that prohibit free overnight stays and finding free places to stay overnight that do not fine us is not so easy. Here I think of countries like the Netherlands, Slovenia, among other European countries. So if you are new, start with these two articles better:
- 10 tips for traveling in a motorhome for the first time
- Motorhome beginner mode: Top 4 motorhome routes for beginners and flop routes!
Finally, whatever it is, I would recommend you to avoid routes that are too challenging or complicated. You don't want to spend more time dealing with mechanical problems or maneuvering narrow roads than enjoying your destinations.
3 Tips before leaving on a motorhome route for our proposals
Before explaining the routes that from our experience are some of the best motorhome routes you can do, let me give you some practical advice:
Plan your route and places where you want to camp in advance to avoid surprises and make sure you have a place to spend the night.
Research national and local RV camping and parking regulations and regulations and plan carefully what you want to see and do on your route. Only by planning your route well will you enjoy it 100%. Traveling in a motorhome is improvising, but when we improvise so much things happen to us, we go around more or we are left without being able to visit a place because it is full. Surely you have had that feeling of not having enjoyed a trip 100% because you did not plan your route a little more.
Plan, prepare and book what you want to do so you don't run out of it.
Don't run, you have a house with wheels, not a car
Our motorhomes are made of fiberglass, they are like shoe boxes. An accident at high speed and it can be fatal.
For this reason and because these critters are very heavy, which makes braking and maneuvering difficult, be careful and do not run.
Also, remember that we carry a lot of things in the cabinets that can be opened, never run on the road. Be careful, I repeat. Enjoy the road and don't be in a hurry.
In a motorhome less is more
Prepare yourself with the necessary supplies, such as drinking water, gas, food, and cleaning products. It is important to be self-sufficient during your trip. But remember this premise: less is more. Our houses with wheels are already heavy enough, do not carry more weight than necessary. Apart from spending more fuel due to weight, moving around in your motorhome will be more difficult.
