Parking and getting to Chaumont
We parked the Xirivica, our motorhome, in the Castle's parking lot. The Castle has 3 different car parks and they accept motorhomes in all, therefore there is no problem to park and visit the Castle, what I think is not allowed is the overnight stay. These car parks are usually closed at night.
A little history about the Château de Chaumont
In our opinion, Chaumont is a beautiful castle that plays a significant role in the history of Catherine de Medici and Diane de Poitiers. Catherine de Medici purchased the castle in 1550 and made it profitable through agricultural operations and the collection of tolls on the Loire River. After the death of Henry II, during a revolving door, Catherine de Medici demanded that Diane de Poitiers return the Château de Chenonceau. Although it had been a gift from Henry to his well-known mistress, it belonged to the crown and therefore to the regent queen, Catherine de Medici. In exchange, Catherine ceded the Château de Chaumont to her. Diane visited Chaumont only a few times, but she oversaw its renovation, giving it the essential elements of its current appearance.
The gardens that we see today are very recent since before 1880 in their place there were 2 villages made up of 113 houses. To create the park, Prince Henri - Amédee de Broglie bought and then had all the buildings in front of the castle destroyed and financed the construction of a new village on the banks of the Loire.
Chaumont castle by motorhome: overnight stay and services
CHAUMONT CASTLE BY MOTORHOME, WHERE TO STAY AND PARK:
We cannot add anything of interest in relation to this castle and its facilities in relation to motorhomes. Just add that you can park at the door of the castle. It is an unpaved parking lot where buses park. We cannot give information about the overnight stay, since we gave the kids a surprise and took them to Disney the same day.
