I'll tell you about our adventure on Lake Constance in Austria, part of the Lake Constance cycling route with children that we did this summer as a family.

A family adventure of almost 180 km cycling together and staying in campsites with our tent, which we all thoroughly enjoyed, especially our little ones on this leg. Today we finish the route on our 5th stage , day 5 of this adventure, after yesterday's Stage 4: From Uldingen to Kressbronn, with a visit to the medieval town of Meersburg with its two castles and a visit to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen (41 km).

In this post I tell you all about our 5th day at Lake Constance in Austria, with our anecdotes, experiences, visits and tips so you can plan your route and trip.

Stage 5: From Kressbronn to Fußach, with a visit to Lindau and a ride up the Bregenz cable car to Mount Pfander (36 km)

Our final leg of this amazing cycling trip takes us from Kressbronn to Fußach, but before we leave, we have a must-see stop in Lindau, a beautiful German city located on an island in Lake Constance. An island!

Lindau, we visit the fairytale island of Lake Constance

As I told you, Lindau is a place that we had already visited 15 years ago and to which we always wanted to return. The first time we arrived soaked by the rain in a tent and a nice yellow Seat Panda. What an adventure that was!

Upon arriving in Lindau, the beautiful island in Lake Constance , we came across a charming park with a huge elephant slide that delighted the little ones. This park is accessed via the bridge next to the train tracks, right at the entrance to the island.

After playing in the park for a while, we went in search of a good pastry shop for a hearty breakfast. Coffee and German meringue cake—a delicious way to start our visit to Lindau!

The pastry shop we chose, Theater Café Lindau, did not disappoint; it was spectacular, and we definitely recommend it. They had so many cakes to choose from, and the peaceful terrace where we sat was enchanting. Don't miss their lemon pie—it's amazing!

With our stomachs already full, we now set out to wander around and visit Lindau.

What to see in Lindau

The charming old town

Its cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and historic buildings create a charming and picturesque atmosphere. A stroll through here is like stepping into a fairy tale!

The port and the lighthouse

Lindau harbor is a picturesque sight, with boats and yachts creating a dreamlike setting. The Lindau Lighthouse , majestically situated on the lake, offers breathtaking panoramic views.

The Lion of the Port

An iconic statue of the city in front of the Lindau lighthouse, a perfect spot to get a memorable photo.

St. Peter's Church

This historic church located in the old town square will leave you amazed by its stunning architecture and colorful stained glass windows.

From Germany to Austria through the best beaches of Lake Constance

After saying goodbye to Lindau, we finally entered Lake Constance in Austria and came across a spectacular bike path alongside a stunning beach on the shore. We couldn't resist, so we jumped in for a refreshing swim in the emerald waters. How revitalizing!

From the bath we entered Bregenz, one of the essential towns on Lake Constance in Austria.

Bregenz with visit to Mount Pfander

Once in Bregenz, the capital of Vorarlberg, we set out to find a restaurant to sample Austria's culinary delights. After a delicious feast, we decided to take the cable car up Mount Pfander . The panoramic views of the lake and the Alps from there were simply breathtaking.

At the top, our little explorers enjoyed a circular route with animals and some abyssal slides. What a thrill to see the marmots and slide down those giant slides! Definitely a fantastic plan if you're visiting Bregenz with children that you shouldn't miss.

After the visit to Mount Pfander, we went back down with the cable car and set out to visit Bregenz.

The famous Bregenz Festival Theatre , known for its floating stage on the water, offers unique and impressive shows during the Bregenz Festival.

Port of Bregenz

A place to enjoy panoramic views of the lake and the Alps, with numerous restaurants and cafes to delight you.

Bregenz Old Town

A charming stroll through cobbled streets and historic buildings that will transport you to bygone eras.

Pfänderbahn Cable Car

The perfect way to enjoy breathtaking views of the lake and the Alps from the top of Mount Pfänder!

Church of San Martín

This Baroque church is a prominent monument in Bregenz, with beautiful frescoes and decorative details.

Vorarlberg Museum

If you are interested in the history and culture of the region , this museum offers an interesting collection of art, history, and folklore.

Arrival at our departure point and end of our route

After visiting Bregenz, we said goodbye to our bikes and completed the last few kilometers of our cycling adventure around Lake Constance in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. In just over 10 km, we returned to the starting point where we had left our Kucavana, the campervan we had traveled in and which had been parked for the five stages of this Lake Constance cycling route.

Nearly 180 km cycled with our 7 and 10-year-old children made our first bike trip an adventure we'll remember forever . It was a journey full of fun, laughter, and discoveries. An experience we'll definitely repeat on future adventures!
