Our visit to the Castle of Vilandry
Next stop, VILANDRY CASTLE.
We parked the Xirivica, our motorhome, in the Vilandry motorhome area, which is only 1 km away. We decided to get off the bikes and ride them. This route does not have a bike path and we decided to move through the wax, we found it safer for the little ones.
Vilandry castle
Villandry owes its fame to its landscaped French-style gardens. All its splendor is owed to the Basque Joaquín Carvallo who bought the castle, abandoned his profession and gave his life to Villandry. He first restored the castle and then set out to restore the gardens, drawing inspiration from a literary source (The Most Beautiful Buildings in France) that describes the organization of French Renaissance gardens. Using this information as a basis and the information he obtained from excavations in the gardens themselves, he was able to restore the gardens that we admire today.
The Vilandry Gardens
The gardens are distributed as follows:
1- The decorative garden: It is formed by 4 squares that make up the gardens of love
- Tender love: Formed of hearts separated by small flames. In the center cedars cut in the shape of masks.
- Passionate love: Hearts broken by passion are dynamically arranged.
- Fleeting love: Illustrated by butterfly wings, fans and in the center notes that simulate feelings.
- Tragic love: The drawings represent blades of daggers and swords that were used in love duels.
2- In the second group of gardens we can easily find the Maltese Cross, the Lenguadoc cross and the Basque Country Cross in honor of the Caravallo family.
These two gardens can be seen perfectly from the viewpoint.
3- The Water Garden: In its center you can find a mirror-shaped water surface surrounded by a green area ideal for walking.
4- The Garden of the Sun: It consists of 3 spaces.
- The cloud room (made up of bushes and plants in blue and white colors)
- The sun room formed by vegetation in yellow and orange tones
- The room of the kids. Here we find a small playground that was created to enjoy the games and laughter of children.
5- The Labyrinth: It has nothing to do with a Greek labyrinth. His creation is overflowing with magic symbolizing the walk of man on earth.
6- The Simple Gardens: Garden full of aromatic plants. Its aroma is intoxicating.

VILANDRY CASTLE BY MOTORHOME, WHERE TO STAY AND PARK:
Villandry motorhome area, 1km away from the Castle.
Area of the same chain as that of Saumur (PASS'ETAPES). It has all the services, electricity included. Large and paved spaces, very comfortable. It is worth traveling by bicycle to the castle, in the same door you will find a parking for these, take a padlock or chain to tie them "although it is the most used vehicle in this area and there is a lot of respect for them".
