Stage 4 Lake Constance by bike: Visit to the medieval town of the 2 castles of Lake Constance and the surprising Zeppelin museum

We continue explaining our route through the Lake Constance by bike with children as a family that we have done this summer. An experience of almost 180 km pedaling with the family and staying in campsites with our tent that we have all enjoyed very much.

Today is the 4nd stage, the 4nd day en route, of this adventure after yesterday's day of the Stage 3: From Constanta to Uldinguen, 26 km, passing through the island of Flowers, a ferry and with very cool visits for the whole family in Uldinguen (25 km) and before the step 5, our last day of this route.

We are the kucavana familyWe traveled with our two children, ages 8 and 11, and our adopted dog Max. We usually travel in our motorhome called Kucavana, hence the name of our blog (Anna as a baby didn't know how to say motorhome and said Kucavana), but we also like to travel by bicycle touring or by plane and backpacking. We enjoy every learning experience as a family and we hope to help you enjoy it as much as we do. We do it by traveling.

From Uldinguen to Kressbronn, with a visit to the medieval village of Meersburg with 2 castles and a visit to the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen (41 km)

Without a doubt this stage has been one of the ones we liked the most on our entire route through Lake Constance by bicycle.

After saying goodbye to our new French friends from yesterday's campsite, we set off on new adventures on our 4th day on cycling wheels! Let's start!

The first thing on our itinerary today was visit Meersburg, a medieval city with two castles that we had heard wonderful things from our German friends. And boy did it not disappoint us!

The old town and castles are located in top of a hill, so we climbed a few stairs to get there. But, it was worth it! Colorful houses, cobblestone streets and a unique charm welcomed us.

As good sweet lovers, we couldn't resist the temptation of stopping at a pastry shop to enjoy delicious cakes Germans with a good cup of coffee. What a treat!

Then we visited the Lake Constance Wine Museum, which, by the way, comes with the Bondensee Card. The visit awakened our senses with its interactive rooms and its "self-tasting" room, which was quite an experience.

We continue our journey and arrive at the Meersburg Old Castle, right in front of the New Castle. Both castles were very well preserved and the views of Lake Constance were simply stunning.

We visited the old castle which surprised us, how well preserved it was and how old it was. Here, we feel like real knights and princesses! Meersburg has really become one of our favorite towns so far on our Lake Constance cycling route.

What to do and what to see in Meersburg

Meersburg New Castle (Neues Schloss)

Just opposite the Old Castle is the New Castle of Meersburg. This Renaissance castle offers a different experience, with rooms decorated with antique furniture and elegant gardens.

Meersburg Old Castle (Alte Burg)

 This impressive medieval castle stands majestically on the hill and offers panoramic views of Lake Constance and the surrounding area. Explore its impressive rooms and hallways, and discover the fascinating history it holds.

Meersburg old town, a must-see on the Lake Constance bike route

Stroll through the cobblestone streets of Meersburg's old town, where you'll find colorful houses, quaint shops, and charming cafes. It is a perfect place to immerse yourself in the medieval atmosphere of the city.

New Church (Neue Kirche)

This neo-Gothic church is an important landmark in Meersburg. Its impressive architecture and beautiful stained glass windows make it an interesting visit.

Meersburg Harbor

Don't miss a walk through the picturesque port of Meersburg. Here you will find boats that take you to other towns around the lake, as well as charming restaurants and cafes.

Lake Constance Wine Museum (Weinbaumuseum)

 If you are a wine lover, don't miss this interesting museum. You will learn about the history of wine in the region and enjoy a tasting of local wines.

Walk along the Castle Promenade (Schlosspromenade)

 This lakeside walk is perfect for enjoying stunning views and relaxing while taking in the beauty of Lake Constance.

Friedrichshafen and the Zeppelin Museum, 2nd visit of the day

After these exciting visits, We cycle 20 more km until we reach Friedrichshafen, One largest cities on Lake Constance. There, we had the opportunity to visit the Zeppelin Museum, and I assure you that it left us speechless!

The museum is located on site historic where the Zeppelin factory used to be. Interactive exhibits immersed us in the history of Zeppelin airships, from their conception to their most notable achievements. We even got to see an actual section of a original airship inside!

The simulators They made us feel like real pilots, and the multimedia experiences immersed us in the world of aviation. And we cannot forget the panoramic terrace, from where we enjoy a spectacular view of Friedrichshafen and the lake. We took a lot of photos for the scrapbook!

What to do and what to see in Friedrichshafen

Zeppelin Museum

 Una essential visit on our Lake Constance bike route, in Friedrichshafen, is the famous Zeppelin Museum. This museum tells the fascinating story of the Zeppelin airships and their inventor, Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. You can explore interactive exhibits, see a real section of an airship, and enjoy simulators that will make you feel like a real zeppelin pilot.

Walk around the harbor

 Friedrichshafen has a beautiful harbor on the lake, where you can take a nice walk and enjoy the view of the boats and the surrounding mountains. You'll also find a wide variety of restaurants and cafes to enjoy a lakefront meal or drink.

Montfort Palace

 Visit the Palais de Montfort, a beautiful historic building located on a small hill near the lake. The palace offers panoramic views of Friedrichshafen and Lake Constance.

Dornier Museum

If you are an aviation lover, don't miss the Dornier Museum, dedicated to the history of German aviation and the famous Dornier aeronautical company. Here you will find an impressive collection of aircraft and aviation-related exhibits.

Walk along Bahnhofstrasse avenue

 This avenue is perfect for shopping and enjoying the lively atmosphere of Friedrichshafen. You'll find shops, boutiques and cafes, as well as the statue of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin in the center of the square.

Rose Garden (Rosengarten)

 If you visit Friedrichshafen during flower season, don't miss the beautiful Rose Garden. This park has an impressive collection of roses and other flowers, perfect for a relaxing walk.

St. Nicholas Church (Nikolauskirche)

 This beautiful neo-Gothic church is an interesting place to visit. Its architecture and stained glass windows are impressive and will give you a peaceful and spiritual experience.

Boat ride on the lake

Take advantage of Friedrichshafen's lakeside location and enjoy a relaxing boat trip on Lake Constance. The panoramic views of the lake and surrounding landscapes are simply stunning.

Towards Kressbronn to rest with some mishap along the way

After this day full of emotions and visits, we pedal along Lake Constance by bicycle until we finally arrive at Kressbronn, our rest campsite. after traveling 41 km total.

2 Anna falls from the bike and a curvy road without a shoulder they tested us in this last part of the stage, but the rewarding rest at the campsite left us ready to continue enjoying our route along Lake Constance for our next and last stage:

Stage 5: From Kressbronn to Fußach, with a visit to Lindau and a ride up the Bregenz cable car to Mount Pfander (36 km)

And thus concludes this exciting stage of our cycling adventure with the little ones. Ready for more fun and surprises in the next stages? For sure yes!
