What to keep in mind?

On your trip to Poland you must know Sopot yes or yes, one of the most visited tourist centers in the Baltic Sea. Day or night, summer and winter, it enchants tourists with a variety of attractions and the beauty of its architecture.

It is 10 kilometers from Gdansk, so we recommend you visit also Gdansk at the same time.

What to see and do in Sopot: 8 essentials
What to keep in mind?

Sopot is a city that is situated on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea and is known as the spa town. Since its inception, Sopot has been a favorite resting place for the cream of society, inspiring poets and painters, motivating sportsmen, attracting entrepreneurs and arousing admiration from foreigners. In the opinion of its inhabitants, Sopot is a perfect place to live! And in my opinion, I too would go to live in this city! Wonderful!

And now I tell you the 8 essential things to see and do in Sopot:

The Sopot Pier

The Sopot Pier is the longest wooden pier in Europe. It is over 500 meters long and is one of the biggest attractions in Sopot. The pier offers a beautiful view of the moored yachts and the city with the characteristic shape of the Grand Hotel.

In the summer season it is a popular place for walks, special events and, at the same time, a port of reception for tourists. On both sides of the pier there is a beach, one of the favorite places for families with children.

You have to buy a ticket to enter the entrance, don't forget.

Monte Cassino Street

A walk down this street is a must when visiting Sopot. Bohaterów Monte Casino street (the so-called Monciak), completely closed to car traffic, is full of charming pubs, restaurants, cafes, gardens and shops. Here I recommend the pastry bakery that the street near the end square has, My mother, what sweets and breads, brutal. Of course, we went to dinner at a restaurant and what I bought for breakfast I stay in the restaurant. I still regret that forgetfulness!

In high season, along the Royal Route or Long Street and Market in Gdańsk and Kościuszko Square in Gdynia, it is the most visited place by tourists. In summer, especially in the afternoons, the street is full of life and crowded with people.

Sopot's crooked house

It is undoubtedly one of the most characteristic buildings in Poland, located on the aforementioned Bohaterów Monte Cassino street. The Crooked House, almost immediately after its completion in 2004, gained enormous popularity and became something of a showcase for the city. A very unique building!

Inside there are restaurants, cafes, pubs and nightclubs. The building is on the list of the strangest inventions of world architecture.

The Grand Hotel

A particularly dazzling example of more traditional architecture is located near Sopot's waterfront: the Grand Hotel. The proud silhouette of the monumental building right next to the beach reflects the rich and anecdotal history of this one of the finest hotels in Poland.

It housed hundreds of the most eminent figures in the world of culture, politics and science. Among those whose visits are mentioned most frequently are Charles Aznavour, Marlena Dietrich, Charles de Gaulle or Greta Garbo. Next door there is a restaurant with a terrace with the best views of the pier and Sopot, we had a movie dinner there, I highly recommend it, and the price for being such a select place more than affordable! At € 10 uros the most expensive dish we ordered and with 1 enough per person.

Skwer Kuracyjny: The Healing Hot Springs Square

An elegant square in front of the pier and promenade with hot springs and in front of a hotel and restaurant with a beautiful architecture. A place not to be missed. In front of this square, bicycles for children, bustle of people, singers, pampering and countless attractions make Sopot a unique place on the Baltic coast.

Sopot's beach and promenade

Sopot, in addition to the amazing weather and monuments, also has a lovely beach that stretches not far from the city center. The beach is sandy, more than 4 km long. Bill

With a promenade divided into parts for pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, along the way, numerous gastronomic options await you.

Forest Opera in Sopot

To relax surrounded by nature, it is worth taking a walk and a picnic in the wooded setting of Sopot's famous amphitheater, not without reason called Forest Opera. The facility, inaugurated in 1909, is characterized mainly by very good acoustics and an attractive location.

The stage of the Opera del Bosque is mainly associated with the festival that takes place here every year. It is also a venue for numerous classical music concerts, blues concerts, rock concerts, and fashion shows.

The Sopot lighthouse and behind the spa

In almost every coastal city you can find beautifully preserved lighthouses. The one in Sopot, built in 1903-1904, is a peculiar navigation point on the Baltic Sea. A spiral staircase leads to the top of the tower, which is 39 meters high. The lighthouse is open to tourists in the summer season. From the observation tower you can admire the amazing horizon.

Behind and almost stuck we find a spa with a very interesting architecture. A place not to be missed!

Sopot is waiting for you!

Where to eat in Sopot: a recommendation

We recommend you eat where we dine, an impressive place. In the restaurant right in front of the hot springs. In the photo below you will see it. It is the terrace that is seen behind the fountains. A restaurant with spectacular views of the Skwer Kuracyjny square and pier from its terrace and with a meal that we loved. The price, as always, for a restaurant so cool, super well priced, did not reach 10 euros for any dish on the menu.

Where to park and spend the night in Sopot by motorhome or camper

We arrived in Sopot from Gansk parking and spending the night in the motorhome area of the University of Gansk that has all the services and at a good price.

Sopot is 10 km away by bike by bike lane and you can also go by public transport or by Uber for less than 7 euros, the latter is what we did for the little time we had, but we would have gone by bike safely.
