Poland by motorhome

Before arriving in Poland by motorhome: much more than you imagine

The happy beginning

Our trip to Poland by motorhome begins, like all trips, with preparation and previous illusion. Our objective is clear: to know the remains of the Second World War.

With our bags packed, we left in August 2019. After a well-deserved overnight in Avignon, our first destination is Alsace. There we visited the most typical and beautiful towns for 3 days: Eguisheim, Kayserberg, Colmar, Ribeauville and Strasbourg. How easy it is to take impressive photos in these places!

Luckily for us, we found that all the towns in Alsace have areas well prepared for the AC world to sleep and fall in love with its incredible landscapes.

We confess that our little ... Scooter always accompanies us in the trunk ... perfect for touring the towns and cities! And on this occasion, in our experience in Poland in a motorhome, it could not be missed!

We discover Leipzig

After the first 3 fascinating days, we entered Leipzig. That city that goes beyond postcard express tourism and whose streets sound like classical music. Imbued with its cultural essentials, we visited the most popular monuments, the university and also the statue of the famous composer Wagner.

Now, we come to fascinating Berlin

Our next stop in search of WWII remains is Berlin. There we let ourselves be captivated by the magic of the city for two days and spent the night in the area of AC del center of the german capital. We say “auf wiedersehen” and head towards Poland: the center of our summer adventure.

Poland awaits us: in search of the remains of the Second World War!

To enjoy our Poland experience in a motorhome, we choose a circular route which starts in Gdansk. Our first Polish destination is a northern coastal city. Better impossible !. Its beaches, port and center captivate us. We spend the night in the Stogi Beach area.

After visiting Gdansk we moved to Malbork and discovered a medieval castle with a campsite at its feet. We highly recommend it!

Hitler's bunkers

From Malbork and, heading east, we head to “La Guarida del Lobo”, a secret enclave of Hitler's bunkers during the 2nd World War. We spend the night there and, the next day, we start our way to Mazury. This area is a summer space and disconnection for the Poles. We visit the lakes and head to Bialowieza.

Bialowieza National Park it is home to the few remaining European Bison species and is located on the Polish border with Belarus. That night we spent next to the National Park, in a parking lot of an enclosure for the protection and conservation of the bison.

Heading to Warsaw

From the eastern end we take we head towards the capital, Warsaw. There, for two days, we visited the center, the wall, tried the famous Pierogi and took routes to learn the ins and outs of what was the cradle of the revolution against the Nazis at the hands of the Varsovians. In Warsaw We spend the night in a central campsite called “Camping 1,2,3 Warsawa”.

We shift to a greener landscape

After the days of the city and the monumental visit, we need a bit of nature, so we decided to enter the Tatras mountains visiting the picturesque town of Zakopane. It is a luxury to be able to walk through the green mountains, take the route to the MorskieOko (Lake of the Tatras) or stroll through the large parks that the area offers. There, we spend the night in a friendly family campsite for two days. Prices in Poland make it much easier to spend the night in well-equipped places.

The beauty of Krakow calls us

From here we head towards Krakow, visiting both the Salt Mines and the city itself. In Krakow we spent the night at Camping Smok. It is a beautiful city, next to the Vistula river and with innumerable architectural monuments such as Wawel Castle, the Cathedral, the Cloth Market, the Barbican or the walls.

We must confess that due to the reduced price of restaurantsWe indulge in the occasional Polish binge; the Sloti makes everything a lot easier.

Auschwitz, the impressive concentration camp

To continue on our route, already descending, we visit the impressive Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. A necessary visit to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past. Auschwitz is perfectly prepared for motorhome tourism, so we spent the night in one of the car parks for € 10.

Our Polish route ends here but we still have many kilometers to go home, so we make the most of it.

Goodbye Poland, hello Prague

After leaving Poland we visited CeskyKrumlov and Prague in the Czech Republic. From there, we will go down to the Salzkammergut area to disconnect for a few days. bathing in alpine lakes and visiting places like Hallstatt or the FiveFingers lookout in Obertraun. These days of natural connection give us energy for the whole year.

We arrived in Munich

On the way back, we visited Munich, spending the night in the Allianz Arena car park. Thence we enter the Italian Alps and we make a stop in the Aosta Valley. The Monte Bianco La Sorgente campsite is a privilege at the feet of the white giant that must be visited once in the motorhome life.

Back home

Our trip ends in Girona, where we make the last stop before reaching our native Banyeres de Mariola. It has been an incredible journey!
