Visit the Vall de Boí with children

We like La Vall de Boí a lot, we always visit it in San Juan or on weekends in June and July to see the Fallas.

Fallas Vall de Boi with children: a good time to visit the area

For those who do not know what they are, the festival of the fallas, which is celebrated in 63 towns in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees (34 in France, 17 in Catalonia, 9 in Aragon and 3 in Andorra) has been declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

With the title, «The summer solstice fire festivities in the Pyrenees: Fallas, Haros and Brandon» this tradition has become recognized worldwide.

Las Fallas are a torch made of resinous wood of about 2 meters in length, which is made with pieces of pine wood glued to an ash stick with wires and tips. There are also a variety of faults made in a single piece of pine worked to burn hard, they are called Rantiners.

The party begins a few days before with the elaboration of the fallas and Rantiners, in which the boys and girls of the town work to prepare them and let them dry a little.

The day of the Fallas everything begins at the lighthouse, a high place on the mountain usually with a very good view over the town where a pine and other trees are planted to get a bonfire. It is from this point that the faults come on before starting the descent.

The fallaires, after dinner and when it is very dark, light the lighthouse, and with it their fallas, they make the descent proud of carrying the fire into the town with one of the boys in front, until they reach the square, where the people receive them with joy, music and party, a great bonfire is made with the remains of fallas and Rantiners that have resisted the descent and the party that can last all night begins.

Now that we have explained to you a little what the fallas are and surely you will like to visit them sometime, we continue with our trip.

Days and route through the Vall de Boí with children

Well in the Valley we were 5 daysPerhaps they are few because there is much to see and visit in the mountains.

These 5 days we have visited different places in the valley, taking walks with the children through the mountains or visiting charming villages. We recommend:

What to see and do in the Vall de Boí with children

Planell by Aiguestortes

Go up to the Planell de Aigüestortes, to gain access you can park in the Palanca de la Molina car park (if you go by motorhome there is 1 sign that prohibits access to vehicles larger than 2 meters wide). It can also be accessed by taxi from the Boí car park. The walk up is long but if you bring food you can enjoy a great day with the family with spectacular landscapes passing by the Llebreta lake. If you do not like walking so much, the taxi service reaches La Palanca and there you can make shorter excursions.

Route to Lake Llong and Lake Redó

Route Planell de Aigüestortes to Lake Llong and Lake Redó, this time we decided to take a taxi to Planell to visit and see landscapes above the park. The children really liked taking the taxi to the Planell. From there we visit Lake Llong and Lake Redó. The route is easy and very beautiful. Highly recommended to do with children to enjoy nature. Along the route we were accompanied by the cows that graze through the Natural Park.

Route from the Cavallers Reservoir to the Black Lake

-Route reservoir of the Cavallers dam to the black lake, this route is a bit more demanding in terms of road, stony path but it compensates for its landscapes and the spectacular views of the mountains of the Valley. Also known as the route of the marmot, we did not see any but we did hear. The reservoir car park cannot be accessed with a motorhome or vehicle over 2 meters wide, you can walk up from Caldes de Boí or take a taxi from Boí. We recommend always wearing a raincoat, even if it is very sunny, we were caught in a brutal storm that we were soaked!

Visit the beautiful villages of the Boí Valley

All the towns that make up the Boí Valley have their charm. Barruera, Boí, Taüll, Durro, Erill la Vall, Pla de l'Ermita, Cóll and Cardet. All of them are connected by very beautiful and easy paths to do with children.

Path from the Pla de la Ermita area to Taüll

We recommend the path that goes from the Pla de la Ermita area to Taüll. A path that follows the course of the river until it reaches the Romanesque hermitage of Taüll. Another easy one is the route from Boí to Erill la Vall, easy to do with children. Normally, these routes are accompanied by the search for "little treasures" or better known as geocaching.

Visit to a cheese factory

Finally, another of the proposals to do in the Vall de Boi with children is in Taüll. Where there is a cheese dairy @formatgeria_taull where in addition to its delicious cheeses, in summer you can find ice cream made with goat's milk, great. Before the Covid you could visit the goats and explain how they made their products.

Where to spend the night and park in a motorhome or camper in the Vall de Boí

Upon arrival in Barruera, that there is an area for motorhomes next to the river and a picnic area (N 42 ° 30'5.0397 «E 0 ° 47'44.592»), but they informed us from the town hall that they have classified it as a flooded area and do not recommend staying overnight in this area, They advise going to sleep in the area in Boí (N 42 ° 31'23.5236 «e 0 ° 49'59.6244») or the new area of Pla de la Ermita (N 42 ° 30'59.0868 «E 0 ° 51'22.3488 »).

We are very sorry not to be able to stay there to sleep, since the space is great to be able to be with children by the river, walking you get to the town and there is a children's area with parks.
