Zakopane in Poland on our route through Poland

On your trip to Poland you should know the city of Zakopane in Poland, an ideal destination to go with the family and at any time of the year.

Zakopane is a popular holiday destination in Poland. In summer, it is an ideal starting point for hiking in the highest mountains in Poland, in winter it is one of the largest ski resorts in the country.

A place to savor its typical smoked cheese and be surprised by its warm culture among wooden houses taken from a Christmas story.

What to see and do in Zakopane: 8 plans

Zakopane is a ideal destination for mountain lovers. Wonderful landscapes and diverse attractions make it impossible to get bored here. There, mountain trails and magnificent architecture await you.

What is worth seeing there?

Here are the most interesting attractions in Zakopane according to our experience:

Kasprowy Wierch, in the middle of the Tatra Mountains

Kasprowy Wierch (1987 meters) is the most visited peak in Poland. During the season, you can find a large number of tourists, most of whom decide to go up there by cable car, although you can also walk up a path in the Tatra Mountains National Park, from Zakopane. Some people choose hiking trails that are divided into green, blue, and yellow trails depending on the degree of difficulty.

Access to Kasprowy Wierch can be done by cable car or on foot from Zakopane, accessing the entrance to the Tatra Mountains National Park, which is 20-30 minutes from the center of Zakopane. There is a parking lot 10 minutes away, but it is small and fills up very quickly, it is not recommended to go with a motorhome. You can go by taxi or bus too.

The beautiful and touristic promenade and street of Krupowki

Krupowski It is the most famous promenade in the winter capital of Poland and one of the biggest attractions in Zakopane. Krupówki Street is constantly bustling with life and crowded with visitors, especially in the summer season and New Year's Eve.

Gubalowka street that goes up to the Tatra Mountains National Park

Gubalowka  It is the street that leads to the train station that goes up to the top; It is an extension of the famous Krupowki, that is, the main promenade of Zakopane. You can get to the place by cable car.

Wielka Krokiew and the low road with the amazing ski jumps of Zakopane

While in Zakopane, you cannot miss the Wielka Krokiew and the largest ski jump in Poland. It is here that many international sporting events take place.

Antalowka: overlooking Zakopane

Antalowka is one of the highest points in the city. Antawkla, still little known and located a bit far from the main tourist spots, is a point worth considering when exploring the city. Here you can breathe pure air, nature and peace.

Churches of Zakopane

In Zakopane we can see the Sanktuarium Najswietszej Rodziny and also various small wooden churches such as that of Our Lady of Czestochowa. They are all of extraordinary beauty.

Zakopane Aqua Park

A stop that if you go with children can be one of the best attractions. Zakopane is a good destination for a family trip with children. A popular spot among family tourists is the Aqua Park Zakopane, a modern facility with a swimming pool complex (recreational and thermal) with five slides (the longest being over 167 meters) and a spa center.

For a Zakopane with children, this city also offers three adventure parks, filled with numerous attractions for children.

Snow Maze and More Attractions in Zakopane in Winter

If you go in winter, don't forget this incredible attraction. A snow maze made of blocks of snow and ice. The labyrinth has an area of approximately 3.000 m 2 and is the largest structure of its kind in Poland and in the world. Dozens of winding alleys and six-foot-high ice walls made of snow and ice await visitors.

The snow maze is one of the greatest attractions of the Snowlandia Winter Amusement Park. In the park, you can also take advantage of attractions such as a toboggan run or a snow castle with cameras, tunnels and terraces overlooking Giewont, Wielka Krokiew and the entire surrounding area.

Where to eat in Zakopane: a recommendation

We do not usually recommend many restaurants, only when we are sure that something is worth it and it is an incredible experience we do it.

In this case we want to recommend a place that we fell in love with. One of the best restaurants we tried in Poland for our liking.

In this restaurant in Zakopane we were able to eat very well and very abundant. So abundant, that we take home two bags of food so we don't have to throw it away, the large quantities they put on us! Also, we could be in a house of wood typical of the region, beautiful and with a spectacular mill and garden. And finally, all enlivened with regional music from this area of Poland.

The restaurant is called Karczma Przy Mlynie and it is close to the campsite where we slept.

We leave you some photos of everything we ate, all brutal of good. And at a more than reasonable price for everything you eat, but that's how in all of Poland!

Where to park and spend the night in Zakopane by motorhome

The best option for us, to visit Zakopane and spend the night, after much seeing, was Camping nr 97 Pod Krokwią. Nearby there is also a camper park, but for almost the same price we finally opted for the campsite with the best services and closer to the entrance to the Tatra Mountains National Park that we want to visit.

The campsite like all the ten in Poland, with all services, a good price, views of the ski jumps and 10 minutes from the center and the national park. We had two great nights. I wish there were in Spain more campsites this central in the cities and with those prices.
