La Vall d'Hostoles by motorhome (Garrotxa, Girona): the Carrilet greenway, refreshing gorges and more

Spring is coming and the warmth. With this, the desire to escape from home increases. Is anyone else up for a bike getaway and refreshing gorgas?

With 5 things to know for a great weekend in the Vall d'Hostoles in a motorhome:

1 Overnight at the foot of the greenway

The starting point of this route of the Vall d'Hostoles by motorhome or camper that we propose is the old Sant Feliu de Pallarols train station.

There you can park and spend the night right next to the Carrilet Greenway in your campervan or motorhome. There are 24-hour restrooms, a very pleasant bar that also houses the tourist information point, and behind it you'll find the river, with a few areas where you can take a dip.

2 Visit Sant Feliu de Pallarols.

You'll be amazed by its old town. It's a beautiful village! Stroll along the riverbank enjoying the scenery and try the geocoaching circuit if you're traveling with family. Nearby, an easy day trip will take you to the Sant Marc volcano, and from there, just 15-20 minutes away, you can explore the entire Santa Pau volcanic area, making for a fantastic weekend getaway (see the post about Santa Pau: a medieval, magical, and lunar escape ).

3 Route from Sant Feliu de Pallarols to Les Planes d'Hostoles

We suggest cycling or walking the route from Sant Feliu de Pallarols to Les Planes d'Hostoles along the Carrilet Greenway. It's a relatively flat route, just under 12 km round trip. You'll find beautiful scenery with rivers, mountains, tunnels, wooden bridges, and stone walls. It's suitable for all fitness levels and very easy on children. Upon arriving in Les Planes d'Hostoles, you'll find several restaurants with reasonably priced set menus (€12-16 on weekends). In the village, there's a good children's playground and a small supermarket. Above all, remember to bring bike locks, water, and food, and be prepared to stop for short walks and enjoy the surrounding area. By the way, a bike trailer is the best option for toddlers during those challenging years—we've tried it!

4 Take a swimsuit

Bring your swimsuit and water shoes. If the weather is nice, you'll have plenty of opportunities to swim in the many pools of water at Les Planes d'Hostoles.

In the river that runs along the Via del Carrilet or in the Gorga del Poetí (where you will be able to see otters with luck), you will not have to leave the path of the Carrilet. The Gorga del Poetí is right at the entrance of Les Planes d'Hostoles , before reaching the old train station. You just have to go down some stairs and you can take a good bath.

The Gorga del Molí d'en Murris is a 25-minute walk from the greenway. La de las Planas 15 min away (you can also access this from the cemetery parking lot, at the entrance to Les Planes d'Hostoles). They are spectacular and are all very well signposted. Enjoy them and a good refreshing bath!

5 Visit the Castle d'Hostoles

Right next to the greenway, a 15-minute walk away, there's also a great excursion: the Castle of Hostoles. You'll find it well signposted.

This getaway is well worth it. It will be a great discovery if you have never been! It is a little crowded area in spring and of a beastly tranquility and peace. We are already thinking about when to return!

Enjoy this getaway!
