Santa Pau, medieval, magical and lunar getaway. 5 things to know

St. Pau by motorhome, volcanoes, La Fageda d'en Jordà and more

Spring is coming and with it the desire to go out increases. Is anyone else up for a mountain, medieval, magical and lunar getaway?

With 5 things to know for a great weekend:

1 Santa Pau beautiful medieval village

Santa Pau is not just a municipality of volcanoes and beech forests. Santa Pau is a beautiful medieval town, worthy of a full visit. Its castle, buildings and landscape will transport you to another era. Take a photo from your viewpoint and look at the landscape in front of you at the back of the castle. It will surprise you!

2  Visit two volcanoes

From Santa Pau you can visit two large motorhomes or camper volcanoes. From the parking lot of the volcanoes, on the road, before reaching Sta Pau, you have them signposted.

One is Santa Margarida with a Romanesque hermitage in its crater.

The other, the Croscat, unique for its pit, since it had been a clay exploitation (with which tennis courts were made). The Croscat will transport you to a lunar landscape full of different colors due to the oxidation of the lava. It was the last erupting volcano on the peninsula (11.000 years ago)!

3 Don't miss the Fageda d'en Jordà.

From Santa Pau and by motorhome, you can visit the Fageda d'en Jordà.

A very magical beech forest, born from a cooled lava flow from the Croscat. A beautiful place to walk, where you can go in a horse carriage (€ 9 per adult or 7 children), where you can visit the La Fageda cooperative, where people with disabilities make dairy products with great care or where you can go to the farmhouse that it is named and it is now a botanical conservation center.

4 Fèssols of Santa Pau

You can't leave Santa Pau without buying their Fèssols de Santa Pau with designation of origin.

A variety of beans with a great delicate flavor born from volcanic lands that make them unique. Let them soak for 12 hours and then simmer them for an hour and a quarter, scaring the water from time to time (pouring cold water). They will be delicious!

5 Overnight in Santa Pau with your motorhome

For stay overnight With your motorhome or camper the best thing is the parking for motorhomes at the entrance of Santa Pau.

Quiet, free and on a good esplanade next to the town center.

To park on the volcanoes in their parking lot and in La Fageda in their parking lot (in Can Serra). In these last two, you can stay overnight but there is road noise and part of the high season is paid by the hour.

Enjoy this getaway!
